Ben Affleck directs and stars in this gritty heist thriller from the mean streets of Boston. Brit actress Rebecca Hall ('Red Riding Trilogy') and John Hamm ('Mad Men's' Donald Draper) also star in this ultra-tense, Oscar-tipped tale of a career criminal who falls in love with one of his victims.

As he plans a job that could result in his gang's biggest score ever, a longtime thief plans a way out of the life and the town while dodging the FBI agent looking to bring him and his bank-robbing crew down. In addition to heading an electrifying cast, Ben Affleck also directed and co-wrote this suspenseful, critically-acclaimed crime thriller that unfolds - and often explodes - across gritty Boston locations.

The Ben Affleck Comeback continues in stunning fashion.
Heard good things about this movie from when it was released, so was really looking forward to it.
The film has a similar thing going on to Gone Baby Gone, as in all the cards are on the table at the halfway point, and then you are gripped as too what will happen next.
Very well acted by everyone, Jeremy Renner being the standout. John Hamm and Ben Affleck also both very good.
The direction by Affleck is calm, assured, and respectful to the viewer.
He knows the viewer has come to watch a tightly paced drama, and he doesn't rush things.
Becoming a really good director, so will be in line to watch his next directorial venture

Ben Effleck goes all Michael Mann in his second feature after 2008's brilliant Gone Baby Gone.
The Town just shows that he has got his respect back after dumb J-Lo movies and historically inaccurate depictions of Pearl Habour. Set in a Boston neighbourhood Afleck plays the Doug MacRay, leader of a gang who pull off bank jobs for sinister flourist Fergie (the late great Pete Postlethwaite). whilst partnered with Jem (the always great Jeremy Renner) but when a bank Job ends up breifly abducting bank manager Clair ( Rebbecca Hall) the games start, and causing Doug to stalk her to see exactly what she's telling the FBI investigator Adam Frawley (MadMen's Jon Hamm) soon the feelings start to get in the way and the law starts to make them feel the HEAT.
That's exactly what the movie's teeth rattleing gun battles and Bank Raids feel like and I have to say this is the best Heist movie since Michael Mann's masterly HEAT way back in 1995. Both Affleck and Remmer had to re-learn how to use weapons as crooks and not as trained soldies as in the like of Hurt Locker. The movie gripps from the start and the movie is filled with Alpha- male wallop and hard boiled pathos, peppered with ear shredding explsions , realistic gun battles and dialogue that has the impact of a punch in the throat.
The Blue Ray offers a 23 minute longer cut that amps the movie up even further and features great extra's compared to the limited DVD version.
The Town is a thick hear crime thriller and is one of the best films of the year, and only goes to prove Affleck has made a fantastic come back.
If you love crime thrilers then you have to buy this, it's a classy package!
