There are so many good things to say about this film!! If you love a quality bad ass action film with plenty of punch then look no further! This is truly one awesome film with tons of cool hardcore blood and bullets to match anything that has come before it! Stallone is ahead of his game once again with an amazing cast, Jason Statham was brilliant, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, the list goes on! Almost every major player is here all doing what they do best. The story is simple and assures that there is plenty of carnage for all the bad boys to throw their weight around! Theres tons of violence and explosions! And a fantastic cameo from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger which is one of the best scenes in a movie ever where they all parody each others lives, pointless but hilarious to see them all together with Stallone! Fantastic film, very old skool and retro and takes you back to the good old days of 80s and 90s style by the book action films!! One film you need to watch.

Boasting a truly phenomanal cast of 80s legends & brilliant modern day greats e.g jason statham,jet li,terry crews & randy couture we also get to see the 3 iconic cinematic Gods Sly,Arnie & Bruce finally grace the silver screen together in a scene that makes you smile like a cheshire cat.
From start to finish this movie pulsates with exploding action set pieces that will have you gasping for air.
Writer/Director & star Sylvester Stallone has returned to show the world that no matter what happens he will always be The Heavyweight Champion Of The Box Office.

Well slap my a$$ and call me barry. ive never seen this many of my all time favourite actors in the same film ever. This all star cast is the only reason i watched this. Oh.. and the fact that the trailer looked uber cool :) yes.. uber ;)

Yeh ok.. ill agree with ya. The storyline was a bit shocking.. Ok .. shocking but who cares. You watch this because you love action, you love the fight scenes, you love the actors and most of all you want a brilliant film to watch.

In the end despite some draw backs and a small budget probably it still pulls it off. 4/5!!

If anyone watches this film expecting a deeply involved script, or oscar winning perfomances from the cast, then they are open for a world of disappoinment.

If on the other hand like me, you occasionally think "I wonder what Dolph Lundgren is doing now..." and have wanted to see a handful of the best 1980's and 90's stars again... AND all in a film together, with a bit of good old, real men, mindless violence where we all KNOW no one is actually being hurt (with the possible exception of Sly, as Steve Austin managed to break Sly's neck in their big fight scene!!!), then you won't be disappointed!

It has action, a bit of comedy, a cheesy, dodgy plot, a funky plane, a funkier signature 'good guy vehicle', his black truck (built by the American guys "Custom My Ride", fab!), and all the muscle you can ask for from a film!

Statham steals the show for me, and being a Londoner myself... that sits well! (possibly only upstaged by the man Arnie doing what he does best... cheese and saying the word "Chungle" because he can't pronounce his J's! Ace!)

If you wanna just watch a cheesy, by-gone era type film... its The Expendables all the way!

Roll on 2 and 3!!!

You don't watch The Expendables expecting complex plotting, rich character arcs nor oscar worthy acting.
This is a old school action movie that they used to make in the 80's - early 90's. That has a cast to die for Stallone, Statham, jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Lundgren, Eric Roberts and cameo's from Bruce Willis and Arnie. Directed by Stallone with a great eye for the action he never lets the plot get in the way of explosions and carnage. With a brisk running time of around one hundred minutes this does have a slight down side as some of the characters are under used such as Rourke and Lundgren, but it's almost impossible not to get swept along for the ride as the crack team near enough destroy an Island. The stunts a excellent and again most are done for real such as the Sea Plane escape that really does add to the retro feel.
There is nothing that's going to bother the grey matter in this movie, just sit back and enjoy the bedlam as Stallone pulls out all the stops and the big guns in the climatic spectacular battle that leaves bones and limbs shredded in much the same way Stallone directed Rambo 4, But the expendables has the added bonus of having it's tongue firmly planted in it's cheek, and knows not to take this comic book boys own action film serious.
This three disc edition is the version to buy, as it contains the uncut version on Blue Ray, with a little bit of added gore, the cinema cut on DVD and a feature length making of making this excellent value for money, and a damn nice steel case to go with it.
This is one of the most guilty pleasures of the year, sit back turn of the brain and enjoy.
