In 1970, John Wayne earned an Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken, uncouth and totally fearless one-eyed U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn. The cantankerous Rooster is hired by a headstrong young girl (Kim Darby) to find the man who murdered her father and fled with the family savings.

When Cogburn's employer insists on accompanying the old gunfighter, sparks fly. And the situation goes from troubled to disastrous when the inexperienced but enthusiastic Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell) joins the party. Laughter and tears punctuate the wild action in this extraordinary Western which features performances by Robert Duvall and Strother Martin.

what can you say about 'john wayne' that hasn't been said a thousand times before, without doubt he had a 'presance' and 'swagger' that 'owned' the screen, he was for me, as i'm sure he was for many of you 'the ultimate cowboy'
in 'true grit' we find a 'precise'' and determined young lady set out to hire 'rooster cogburn' to help her bring to justice the man that killed her father, he accepts the deal she offers, but isn't too keen on having her 'tag' along to ensure the mission is fulfilled.
they are joined by another marshall who is on the trail of the same man for another murder.
the humour that bubbles to the surface in the film is part of it's charm.
the young girl even manages to 'melt' the heart of the no-nonsense hard drinking marshall.
'john wayne' quite rightly earned an 'acadamy award' for his role in the film.
must admit along with 'the cowboys' and 'the shootist' this was indeed one of his best performances.
was this 'great-blu-ray' .....wasn't the best in truth....however for all you western fans, the film itself is 'A MUST OWN'

A must own western for all john wayne fans it might be more hollywood than the latest film of true grit but far more enjoyable i have both coppies of this film and i wish i had not wasted my money on the cohen brothers film.
