This is a cracking film protraying what life might have been like in the vietam war! The actors here William Dafoe as sgt elias and Tom Berenger as staff serg barnes is brillant! Elias as the water walker peace in one hand and war in the other and barnes as the lunatic, these 2 characters along tell platoon! The storyline simple about young private taylor (sheen) tellin his story to his grandma and what a story, the action and war scenes can be very graphic but its enjoyable! The blu-ray transfer is nothing short than fantastic the colours is so rich and vivd and clear, the battle scenes stay grainy to make the explosions look great and the sound is blu-ray 5.1 stop on! Buy and enjoy.
Platoon is the gripping story of young college drop-out Chris Taylor (Sheen), who felt there was something missing in his life. Signing up for Vietnam duty, Taylor soon comes face to face with the horrors of war.
Trying to maintain his calm at first, it soon becomes clear he is unable to stop his own descent into madness.
"The first casualty of war is innocence". No doubt this reflected Taylor, more so than anyone else. Seeing him slide down, losing self control, and turning into the mentally unstable soldiers he loathed himself, turns your stomach in a knot.
Willem Dafoe, as Sgt. Elias, acts as a mentor to young Taylor, keeping him on the right track. As the vietcong advance their attack, the American army soon loses ground, and suffers heavy casualties, resulting in Taylor's collapse.
Oliver Stone, who enjoyed working with Charlie Sheen around that time, made Wall Street the next year, recalling Sheen to do so. But nowhere else did Sheen come close to what he did for Platoon. The role of his career, no doubt. A true classic, and a must-have.
Best film about the vietnam war.You must have it.5 stars!!!!
The first and best of Stone's Vietnam trilogy, it's also one of his finest pieces of work
a brusingly intense take on the vietnam war. oliver stone's epic platoon secured his reputation as a director who refuses to shy away from controversy. an idealistic young man (sheen) volunteers for the infantry and is sent to vietnam. when he gets there he discovers a brutal war being fought by brutal people, but soon develops a rewarding camaraderie with his fellow grunts (soldiers), however, the company becomes divided between two sergeants, who represent two different approaches to the war there's the honourable good guy (dafoe), who believes that the americans are there to protect the vietnamese, and the murderous bad guy (berenger), who ruthlessly commits atrocities. a no holds barred look at warfare, this was, and still is, a controversial view of usa's involvement in vietnam, and a film that burns itself into the memory. brilliant blu-ray quality.
