Get ready for one Hell of a ride! In Drive Angry, the action thrill-ride from the director of My Bloody Valentine, Nicolas Cage star as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.

He's joined by Piper (Amber Heard) - a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend's cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash Hell on earth.

But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton's problems. The police are after him too. And worse, an enigmatic killer known only as "The Accountant" - (William Fichtner) who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to Hell. With wicked cunning and hypnotic savagery, the Accountant will relentlessly pursue Milton at high speed across the country until his mission is accomplished.

Fuelled by high octane and pure rage, Milton must use his anger to go beyond all human limits to avenge his daughter's murder, before his last chance at redemption is revoked.

I really enjoyed this, it's clear after about 2 minutes that it doesnt take itself too seriously and is all the better for it. Nicolas Cage is on usual manic form but the standout character has to be "the accountant" Wiliam Fichter who gets all the best, and funniest, lines. Amber Heard also shows a reat talent for this sort of thing. You do need to take this film with a pinch of salt but as a spectacle it's excellent and the use of 3d is one of the best yet, things are literally flying out of the screen at you. I am not sure how effective this film would be in 2D (I'm not planning on finding out) but I can thoroughly recommend it especially at its slightly lower price point...

Just when I had given up on the nose dive of Nicolas cage's career after the pathetic Season Of The Witch along comes Drive Angry that restores my faith in the once great actor.
Don't get me wrong Drive Angry is no classic and the acting by all will never get an oscar, on paper the slim story is terrible, but with it's over the top action and gore it's almost impossible to not get swept alomg with the bedlam, as the film knows how silly it is and it's tongue is firmly in it's rotten cheek.
After escaping from Hell Nic Cage is out for revenge for the murder of his daugher and abduction of his infant gandchild by a bunch of satan worshippers. Even Satan is miffed that his very own fan club is giving him a bad name so he sends his debt collector to help matters played by the always brilliant William Fichter.
Earth bound again Cage goes on a road trip from hell as he partners up with Amber Heard ( so damn fit!) as he hunts down the cult gang and extracts revenge in very graphic and hilariously over the top ways.
The film is nothing more than a "B"-Movie, the CGI is pretty dire, but the real stunts are awesome. Cage is great as the damned anti-hero, far better than he has been in anything in ages.
Amber Heard is plucky, sexy and brilliantly foul mouthed that fits the Grindhouse tone of the film perfectly, but it's William Fichtner who steal every scene to the point where you end up wishing there was more of him in the film.
This is the film that Cage's previous falure Ghostrider should have been but failed.
Drive Angry is anything but subtle, but the sleazy over the top tone is hilarious as much as it's thrilling.
The Blue Ray comes with the 2D and 3D versions of the film, but I cannot comment on the third dimension version as I don't have a 3D TV, but the picture quality is crisp and the growl of the engines of the muscles cars really does test the speakers.
See If you like.....

Planet Terror.
Machete.
Crank 1 & 2.
