Three terrific films that are still as watchable as ever for fans of fun, knowing slashers directed with glee by the great Wes Craven, that can still make you jump!
The first, (as a small California town is besieged by a vicious killer), is still the best, with a smart, knowing and yet twist filled script where it's genuinely impossible to figure out who the killer might be til the end. The second, (following the survivors of the first as they face new killers who seem connected to the first film) so close to being as good it's a real achievement and smartly uses the events of the first as a major force in the story and while the third (as the even fewer survivors from films 1 and 2 face the truth and the real mastermind behind the events of all three films) tips a bit too much into self-knowing gags it's still a really good end to the trilogy.
So what's the problem with their arrival on Blu-Ray? Well, it's not likely to be picture quality or extras on this set. Well, it's the looming release of Scream 4 that's the problem because as fantastic as these films are you just know the studio will put out a Scream Quadrilogy box set once the fourth film has been released, even if (as planned) Scream 4 kicks off a brand new trilogy if it's successful enough. So, I'd have though folks would be better waiting for that to come out.
