Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.

How this show was cancelled halfway through the first season is beyond me...it is, quite simply, superb.

Great characters, great stories, great acting, great special effects...you name it this show has got it in bucket loads.

I've watched every episode numerous times and (whilst some are definitely better than others) the standard is consistently high.

Only came to this show after watching the movie "Serenity" which is also a fantastic film.

Must admit I'm hoping for a second movie, but it's looking very unlikely.

Buy this box set - you won't regret it - and mention how good it is to everyone who'll listen to you...that way the people in power might take note and either set up another series or, at the very least, get another film into production!

It was a crime against entertainment that this show was cancelled before its time. Quite possibly the best sci-fi tv show of all time, if not the best TV show of all time.

The characters are brilliant and believable, loveable and noble despite their flaws and differing views on subjects and situations. You always find yourself rooting for them but not through the typical "they are the good guys so you feel you must" sort of way, but rather because you genuinely feel for them and have a real attachment to them.

The overarching story line is great and full of mystery which keeps you involved and the stories of each episode are intriguing, full of twists and unexpected surprises.

It's fast, funny, action packed and often very deep and inspiring with a perfect wild west meets scifi aesthetic. It's also got plenty of great quotable lines, too.

I honestly can't say enough good things about this series. If you own the DVDs, buy the Blu Rays. If you don't own either, then make sure you do. This series and the accompanying, and equally awesome movie (Serenity) are essential additions to any self respecting sc-fi fan's collection.

 Recomended!

By far my favorite TV series. You'll be hooked after the first episode! The relationships between the captain and the crew are hilarious and the plot lines are awesome.

Where the world changing Sci-Fi series started...

This is where it all began, the start of the ground breaking Sci-Fi series... except it didn't. Often held up as an example of a network killing a series before it even began. Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Dr Horribles Sing-a-long Blog) developed the show, wrote the show and wrote the theme tune.

Shown in the USA out of order and floating round the schedules the series was cancelled halfway through its first season. But a group of followers (the Browncoats) started a movement that lead to a final feature film (Serenity). Finally the series is out on Blu-Ray so people can make up their own minds.

Firefly follows the crew and passengers of the Firefly clas ship Serenity. The group are bound together by their problems with "The Alliance" the ruling body of the solar system. At times fiercly loyal to each other, the next trying to throw one of them out of an airlock.

In the first episode the crew take on 3 passengers one of whom will cause the small smuggler ship to become target number 1 on the Alliance hit list.

The good points of the series:

Tight acting with a cast that obviously got on with each other well
Interesting story, just enough mystery to keep you interested but not so much that you feel 'Lost'
Good special effect, costume and settings

Bad:
You know the series will end halfway through
Joss Whedons scripts can be a little "wordy"

Definately worth picking up if you are a Sci-Fi fan or a fan of any of Joss Whedons other shows
