This is where it all began, the start of the ground breaking Sci-Fi series... except it didn't. Often held up as an example of a network killing a series before it even began. Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Dr Horribles Sing-a-long Blog) developed the show, wrote the show and wrote the theme tune.
Shown in the USA out of order and floating round the schedules the series was cancelled halfway through its first season. But a group of followers (the Browncoats) started a movement that lead to a final feature film (Serenity). Finally the series is out on Blu-Ray so people can make up their own minds.
Firefly follows the crew and passengers of the Firefly clas ship Serenity. The group are bound together by their problems with "The Alliance" the ruling body of the solar system. At times fiercly loyal to each other, the next trying to throw one of them out of an airlock.
In the first episode the crew take on 3 passengers one of whom will cause the small smuggler ship to become target number 1 on the Alliance hit list.
The good points of the series:
Tight acting with a cast that obviously got on with each other well
Interesting story, just enough mystery to keep you interested but not so much that you feel 'Lost'
Good special effect, costume and settings
Bad:
You know the series will end halfway through
Joss Whedons scripts can be a little "wordy"
Definately worth picking up if you are a Sci-Fi fan or a fan of any of Joss Whedons other shows
