Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the legendary warrior and hero, Conan the Barbarian. When his parents are killed by a band of brutal marauders and the gang's cold-blooded cult leader (James Earl Jones), the orphaned Conan endures a childhood of merciless slavery only to become a gladiator for the amusement of his captors. Eventually set free, Conan begins a dangerous, full-blooded quest to avenge his parents' massacre. Now, the sword-wielding warrior must vanquish his bloodthirsty enemies in this death-defying action-adventure about courage, strength, character and the triumph of good over evil.

The disc plays the UK cut version on a Region B machine set to display the BD/DVD menu in English (the likely UK set-up).
To play the uncut version on a Region B machine, on the PLAYER, set the BD/DVD menu language to be one of the others listed in the audio/subs above (not all have been tested but, so far, all work.) If you select a language not listed above (e.g. German) then the menu language defaults to English and you get the cut version again. Independent of the menu display language, you have access to all audio/sub options. (The packaging only lists English audio/subs.)

I am quite a fan of the Conan mythos. The DVD/Blu-Ray release is way better than the televised version(in my opinion.) I don't know what it is, but Arnie seem's to be an excellent Conan.

Top 10  Reviewer Top 10 DVD Reviewer

It might open with a quaote from Nietzsche, but Conan's pleasures are far more simple with a bit of Occult nudity, hacking violence, midgets wrestleing with pigs and Arnie punching a camels lights out!. The simple fact is that Conan the Barbarian is still a ridiculously enjoyable pulp fantasy as it was way back in 1981. Just a lot of sword- swinging snake slaying and hardcore male empowerment. The plot charts the rise of the brutally orphaned child and within minutes Arnie is the slave who became a gladiator, who became a movie star. Growing into an enormouse hulk despite no nutrition and pushing a wooden wheel in a circle for ten years. Fans will already no the plot inside and out as Conan is hired to resue Max Von Sydow's runaway daughter from the very Warlock (James Earl Jones) who chopped up Conan's parents, and that's all you need to know.
This is simply a fantastic guilty pleasure, that can be laughed at as much as along with and that's why the original movie is stil the best in the series.
Simple!
The picture on the Blue Ray is the best it's ever been, and for a film released in 1981 the grain is minimum.
Most of the extras are directly crossed over from the DVD special edition, but with the bonus of a great commentary by Arnie and Director Milius who now only realise that they took it all far too seriouse way back then.
TOP TIP!!
This UK version is stil censored for the so called cruelty of the horse tripping stunts in the climax. To get around this, set your Blue Ray Menu to French and when you play you'll get the uncut version the rest of the planet has enjoyed apart from us.
