An award winning, multi-generational political thriller filled with action and intrigue.

The Debt is an espionage thriller that begins in 1997, as shocking news reaches three retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (Helen Mirren) and Stefan (Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds). All three have been venerated for decades by their country because of the mission that they undertook back in 1966, when the trio (portrayed, respectively, by Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, and Sam Worthington) tracked down Nazi war criminal Vogel (Jesper Christensen) in East Berlin. Now, thirty years later, a man claiming to be the Nazi has surfaced in Ukraine and one of the former agents must go back undercover to seek out the truth...

special agents 'rachel' 'stefan' and 'david' track down 'nazi' war criminal 'vogel' who was resposible for the death of thousands of jews during WW2.
the three are let down by the americans who had promised to take 'vogel' to 'israel' for trial, the prisoner is held for some time, however during 'rachel's 'watch' he attempts to escape.
the three agents have covered-up the truth for thirty years hoping he'll never re-surface to destroy the lie the three have kept secret all this time..............however----
'vogel' is identified as alive in the 'ukraine' he's a patient in a hospital, now, one of the three must complete the task that had supposedly been completed long ago, before still being alive exposes the former agents.
this is a superior thriller that should not be missed.............enjoy.

It's easy to compare this tale of MOSSAD agents with the classic Spielberg movie Munich, but the Debt is it's on movie. Don't think you'll get the same graphic assassinations and gun-play as with Spielberg's revenge fuelled thriller as the debt is a muti-generational story following a mission to capture "Surgion of Birkenau" ( the excellent Jesper Christensen, the creepiest on screen Nuremberg dodger since Olivier in Marathon Man). Cutting between a botched 1960's mission in East Berlin and the present where the survivors bear very heavy loads. The Dept makes much of it's young and older same role casting pairing a great turn from Jessica Chastain and Helen Mirren across the decades. Also credit to Sam Worthington for showing that he can stand his own with the acting heavy weights.
The Debt is one of the best movies of 2011 and seemed to go under the radar at the box-office, but it's quality that counts and this is one of the most gripping and impactful films of 2011 that should not be missed.

I wasn't sure when I first got the film if it was going to be something I would find interesting but with stars such as Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson I should have realised I would be captivated from the start.
The excellent acting also of Jessica playing a young Helen Mirren was superb and the creepy surgeon with his mind games was reminiscent of Marathon Man with Olivier. Brilliant acting by all and an edge of the seat thriller well worth its five stars.
