  Weak effort...

Saw this at the cinema and picked up the Blu-Ray yesterday. I have to say, I'm shocked to see that so many people think this is on par with the original.
In my opinion it is about as weak as the third installment and has some equally hammy acting, matching Parker Poseys in Scream 3.

Storywise, it isn't bad - until the end. I found the twist ok, but from then on, it all gets a bit silly. Also, there isn't enough chilling phonecalls from Ghostface taunting his victims - the only one worth any credit is when he calls from the closet early in the film.

Marley Shelton is terrible as she constantly overacts and even David Arquette loses all his charm as Dewy, that he had in the first three chapters.

It could have been a great film, but its a shame parts of it seem wasted. It has its moments, but stops short of living up to Scream and Scream 2.

The DVD and Blu-Ray releases are completely barebones in terms of special features, apart from a trailer. Think this was a rushed job to make up for poor cinema takings upon release. I dare say they will release a special collectors edition soon enough complete with the three previous films.

I'd wait to see if that ever surfaces...

I ended up going to see this three times in cinemas back when it came out and I still can't wait for the DVD release here, as this is a real return to form for the Scream franchise after the underwhelming Scream 3 in 2000.

In the ten years since then, the small town of Woodsboro has experienced no killings on the scale of it's past. But.........wouldn't you know!.........not long after survivor Sidney Prescott returns to town to promote her new book about surviving and coping with the events of her past, a new killer begins stalking and slashing a new generation of teens.

With a whole new class of kids (including her own neice) now at the mercy of a vicious killer, Sidney must reteam with Deputy Dewey and Gale Weathers to find out who is trying to reboot her own life story for a new class!!

With the welcome return of key franchise stalwarts Campbell, Cox and David Arquette with a whole host of new faces and cameos this is a fun, witty and body-filled slasher that should keep most people guessing as to the killer's identity for long enough and delivers a thrilling number of kills and gore to boot.

A return to form!

Seen the film several times already and looking forward to the blu-ray release.
Was refreshing to see some excellent dialogue and a "not so serious" approach again
Story was pretty strong and Marco Beltrami does an outstanding job scoring these films.
Will get this when its released but hopefully the international version has the alternate opening/cuts that made it to the trailer but not the final release
I'm a huge fan of the Scream franchise and whether you're new to horror/thriller/suspense, These films are definately worth at least one watch! Pure genius

An unnecessary fourth entry but mildly entertaining in a law of diminishing returns sort of way. There are too many characters (most rejects from teen TV) and the satire is 10 years out of date but the last 20 minutes goes a long way to saving another very average sequel.

  A Scre4m of Delight!!

I had doubts whether this film could indeed manage to capture the right tone and inspiration of the first film. This in my mind is the closest sequel to match the first film and is just a massively fun time at the cinema. The plot revels in a sort of re-introduction to the characters and the returning cast are an awful lot of fun. The references to modern horror convention and the reliance on sequels, gore and virals is well placed and the film is just an enjoyable stint and actually surfaces a few jump scares along the way too. A great addition to the film franchise and I think it would make for a perfect finnish to the Scream series! Although I doubt it will end it!

Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson are back on form with what is absolutely the best scream since the original!! This movie has all the classic cliques of modern slasher movies and oldskool too setting up yet another string of who done it murders with Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) right in the middle again, The kills are bloody and brutal once again! The idea for the story was great and the big reveal at the end was very well done and fits nicely into the current state of the world these days! The cast reunion was good, great to see all the faces from the originals back on form and the new cast fresh young faces like the wonderful Emma Roberts!! If your a big scream fan dont miss it!!!

Big scream fan. Huge Kevin Willamson fan also.
Scream 1 and 2, awesome, Scream 3 could have been so much better if they hadnt got the other writer to come in, he changed to much like the beginning scene, saw Sidney get attacked but she manages to kill the killer which was an obsessed fan, this prompts her togo into hiding.
Scream 4 was amazing, for those who complain about it, dont really understand what the Scream movies are about, they werent gonna do the same predictable stuff, hence different start. Cant wait for Scream 5 but i fear as Kevin is so busy with Vampire diaries and Secret circle, the studio may get some1 else in 2 write and probably ruin it.
