In this compelling series about the world's first encounter with an alien race, appearances can be deceiving. Simultaneously emerging and hovering over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V's) promoted a message of peace, urging mankind to unite and claiming that Earth could learn much from the wonders of the V's technology. While the world quickly embraced the V's as saviors, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (series star Elizabeth Mitchell) - at the time, investigating a terrorist cell - discovered that the Visitors were not who they said they were, and that they and their leader, Anna (series star Morena Baccarin), were after something far more devious and diabolical than anyone could imagine: the destruction of humanity.

Erica is now part of a group of resistance fighters called the Fifth Column, other dissidents who believe the Visitors have something to hide. Leading the group, along with Erica, are Father Jack (series star Joel Gretsch), a priest who was hesitant to believe in the righteousness of the V's from the start; Ryan Nichols (series star Morris Chestnut), who knows first-hand just what the V's are capable of; and Kyle Hobbes (series star Charles Mesure), a loose cannon and mercenary, he is the most ruthless member of the team.

Meanwhile, for Erica's teenage son, Tyler (series star Logan Huffman), the V's continue to fascinate. He sees them as his ticket to being a part of something big, something meaningful - and upon meeting the alluring Visitor Lisa (series star Laura Vandervoort), the two had an instant connection and undeniable chemistry. Chad Decker (series star Scott Wolf), a career-hungry news anchor, initially found that his exclusive interviews with Anna were crucial to his dominating the airwaves. However, after being diagnosed with a serious illness, Chad learns that Anna is manipulating him and turns to Father Jack for guidance... and to join the resistance. But can Chad be trusted?

 A superior second season continuation...

Following on from some slightly plodding episodes of the previous premiere season of the re-imagined V, this new second season of the sci-fi series picks up the pace considerable and has a far stronger overall year of storytelling (sadly only ten episodes long this year), with some fun moments of referencing to the original 1980's mini-series and one-shot series along the way, including the return of Jane Badler as Diana-this time a newly conceived version of the iconic character, which now sees her as the original deposed leader of the Visitor's, trying to regain the leadership of her controlled people from her daughter, Anna- another splendid performance of calculated evil from the lovely Morena Baccarin, clearly relishing the series.

There's a bit more action, improved character development for some of our heroes, and more on the Visitors and what they look like under their human skin, plus lots of gore galore by the fun episode ten finale (which also includes the brief return of another original V series stalwart: Marc Singer) which brings the season and series to a high and memorable note. Looking great and highly detailed on HD, this is well worth picking up on Blu-ray.

 V - Season 2

Picking up a few days after the finale of Season 1 the second and final season 'V' takes the action oriented approach of the first season and continues it headlong into it's eventual finale.

Making little attempt to correct the haphazard and at times eyebrow raising plotting of the first season, we follow as the rebel Fifth Column continue in their attempt to expose the Vistors and their leader, Anna's true plans for the Earth and it's people. As alliegiances and alliances shift in both directions along the way amongst both groups the future of Earth hangs in the balance.

It's all no deeper or smarter than the first season was, but roll with the focus on action (and a shootout, explosion or chase is never far away here) and it's all passable entertainment as the show wades it's way through some unintentionally funny dialogue, acting and cliffhangers to a series finale that was either written by a team that knew a third season wasn't happening and thought 'What the heck.............' or who were planning some major changes to continue with. And although the CGI visual effects continue to vary in quality thanks to the heavy use of virtual environments (which are covered in a bonus feature) the show generally looks good.

Overall, it's entertainingly simple stuff.

 Lack of features!

This ia a great series, but what I was disappointed in were the features. No cast interviews, particularly with Jane Badler. Jane was not even credited on the dvd or blu ray box.

Great series tho. Shame it was axed. :-(
