Statham is totally at his best in this brutal but brilliant cop killer thriller, this is very different from Stathams usual type of film but at the same time he does still deliver the goods with severe beatings and violent hard man action, the story is good and has some good dialogue, witty dialogue and one liners from Statham, if youre a big fan then check it out you wont be disappointed another Statham gem!!
i do own several 'jason statham' movies, the reason ? .....he rarely fails to give a pleasing performance.
in this he plays a cop 'brant' who has plenty of attitude along with his own brand of justice
when a guy calling himself 'blitz' starts killing cops, threatening to add to the numbers, 'brant' is on a mission to stop him.
fining the suspect 'barry weiss' ( blitz ) is one thing, finding conclusive evidence is another.
this is a good movie, with the role of cop-'brant' suiting 'jason statham's' style brilliantly along with 'aidan gillen's' performance as the killer---very credible......it makes for a good watch.
What an awesome film and so underrated from what I have heard (or NOT, as has been the case) about it Statham's best role since Lock,Stock for me and far more depth to the film than the likes of Transporter etc.
Gritty and visceral look at London's police departments in the council areas. Great to see Statham in a UK production where he just fits in and has massive believability.
Beautiful lighting throughout the film with such vivid colours really bringing out the best (and worst) of London.
Aidan Gillen (aka Murphy) really shines throughout. It's a travesty that the likes of him and Tony Kebbell don't get more high-profile roles, whilst the one-dimensional bores that are Gerrard Butler and Clive Owen get Hollywood recognition. The World is a mysterious place devoid of justice in that respect.
The end result of the film is obvious from the beginning, the story to get there is just so damn good.
Jason Statham flexes his acting muscles in this refreshingly old school cop thriller. Don't go expecting the over the top explosions of The Transporter Trilogy or The Expendables. Bliz is a cop thriller with a few good action scenes thrown in. Based in London the Stath plays a uncompromising cop with a very funny un-pc attitude. Due to a spate of cop killing Statham has to team up with a very unlikly partner played by the excellent Paddy Considine and the polar oposite partners build up a friendship as they hunt down Bliz the killer with a grudge against the police (Aidan Gillen) who is brilliantly psychotic. Aidan Gillen's manic performance is so nasty and hissable as he builds up his hit list against the police and out- smarts the law at every turn you just know when captured Statham will go to town on him....... and he does.
The only down side to the film is the un-needed back story of the W.P.C battleing her adictions as it drags this lean mean film out, but I guess being based on the books it is needed for the possibilities of the sequels.
Statham is at the top of his game and proves he can act, the film may be similar in the unflashy tone of Statham's 2007 movie The Bank Job, but Blitz is slightly inferior, but none the less is a gripping home grown brutal thriller that demands to be seen.
The Blue Ray Extra's are very disappointing with only deleted scenes on offer.
