This is absolutely one of the best TV series ever made, fantastic stories, every episode is jam packed with bloody carnage, sex, betrayal and back stabbing, all the stories build up with much enthusiasm to the audience with good twists and turns every time. The cast is fantastic all round a very good group of actors and actresses. Overall its fun, insanely violent, very sexy and makes you always wanting more, a must own. Make sure you also see the prequel series set before blood and sand, Gods of the arena.

Violence , Sex and a fantastic story !

After constant bombardment by my friend to watch this i finally took the plunge and decided to see what all the fuss was about . My God am i glad i did . The story is obviously about the rise of Spartacus from distraught slave to powerful gladiator whilst also meeting some great characters aong the way . Accompanying the great story are scenes of gladiator battles in the arena that are chroegraphed brilliantly and not for the squeamish . Every episode there are scenes of horrific violence and sex including full frontal nudity . The camera never shies away from these scenes so you get to see them in all their glory . Whilst Spartacus does a great job as the protagonist he is easily overshadowed by his rival and Dominus John Hannah who plays Batiatus . The guy was made for this role and excels in every scene he is in . He is a total scene stealer and a guy everyone loves to hate . Gods of the arena shows his backstory and his rise to become such a villain before spartacus enters his house . There are other characters tht stand out to as Lucy Lawless is great as Lucretia and Manu Bennett as Sparatcus rival Crixus . All in all this is a great series tht is well known for its graphic depiction of sex and violence in Rome but its fantastic character driven story overshadows all of tht .

  Now THIS is quality programming!

I was new to the spartacus story before this boxset came out, so having watched the prequel first and then immediately the blood and sand series, i have to say, that this is probably the best thing on tv at the moment by a long long way! The prequel series ties in beautifully with the original, and in my opinion, provides vital backgrounds to some of the key characters. If you enjoyed the film 300, then the special effects will please you, and with a more in-depth story than Gladiator, fans of that film will equally enjoy it. BUY IT NOW! Season 2 is on tv soon!!

Great Series , Action , Blood and Women!

Great Series. Had some simularities with the Rome Series and 300 movie. But In my opinion this is little less story much more action. Great filming action and (matrix style) slo-mo's.

Just one question. Can anyone tell about the subtitels of this box?

The legend of the rebel slave.
Spatacus is brought to gory, lusty life in this shamelessly OTT cable series.
Created by Smallville/Angel producer Steven S DeKnight, Blood and sand follows titular warrior Andy Whitefield as he messily dispatches of his foe in the arina and plots the downfall of his captors including his mater's power hungry wife (lucy Lawless). shot in the same saturated slow-mo dismemberment as 300, and featuring frequent bouts of flesh-rending and skin baring. Gods of the Arena is a six part prequel made due to the star Andy Whitfield at the time being taken ill and then sadly loosing his battle with cancer and dieing in August 2011, but although the series is shorter the battles are typicall bloody and the plot is just as good, and is a fitting addition to the original series.
Both series are brilliantly pulpy but irresistible fun on a epic scale.
This is brilliant over the top comic book TV.
See If you like.....
Rome seasons 1 -2
Gladiator.
Centurian.
Caligula
