Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.

For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town. A "housekeeper" who aspires to be a full-fledged agent, the loyal company man has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When the first and only occupant he's had proves to be the most dangerous man he's ever met, Weston readies for duty.

Tobin Frost has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that the CIA's known, the ex-intelligence officer has given up assets and sold military intel to anyone with cash since he turned. From trading secrets to North Korea to aiding splinter cells, the damage he's done to the U.S. is immeasurable. And he's now back on the reservation with a secret.

As soon as Frost is brought in for debriefing, mercenaries come and tear apart Weston's safe house. Barely escaping, the unlikely partners must discover if their attackers have been sent by terrorists or someone on the inside who will kill anyone standing in the way. Now it's up to Weston to figure out who he can trust before they're both eliminated from the game.

This is probably the best thriller in a while, very realistic and gritty action and car chases, cool story that is paced well and keeps you interested, Reynolds and Washington are both top of their game and give 110 percent, story has a few little twists, overall if thrillers are your cup of tea this will go down nicely.

sadly this film missed the mark by a mile. instead of non-stop action with twists and turns, it provides an obvious plot with a few short bursts of action in an otherwise dull movie. im a huge washington and reynolds fan but due to poor scripting, mediocre direction and production, this leaves you feeling like it never really got started. not great.

Denzel Washington doesn't make bad movies.

I was quite surprised how much this film grew on me. It has a good script, well directed and is played out to the end. Not a blockbuster but definitely worth some popcorn and a quiet night in.

 'SOME GOOD 'ACTION' SEQUENCES'

'tobin frost' once a highly regarded 'c.i.a' 'op's' agent has long since betrayed his country and has been on the run for the last ten years.
he's in possesion of a 'file' which could seriously damage many high-flying agents around the globe.
he is chased by a large number of mercanaries and to escape walks into a u.s compound to save himself, he has in effect given himself up for questioning.
he is taken to a 'south-african' safe house which soon becomes a target for the heavily armed mercenaries he'd earlier tried to escape from.
many of the safehouse guards are killed in the attack, the rookie 'matt weston' is given the job by a dying colleague of getting 'frost' out of the building safely.
the two become the persued, can the rookie 'housekeeper' keep hold of his charge, who, in truth has years of expierience and will be difficult to handle, esspecially given the numbers in pursuit.
someone of course gave the mercanaries the information of the original safehouse's location, but who, leaving one or two trust issues
for 'matt'
the film did in truth fall a little short of what i had hoped for in the excitement stakes, however, there is a super car chase and several super gunfight and action sequences, making the film worth a spin.

This is a great action thriller and although it's nothing we have not seen many times before it does offer great performances from Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, as the story centres around the legendary spy Tobin Frost (Washington) has managed to elude capture for over a decade, this is due to him being one of the best op's men the CIA's ever trained and he uses his experience as an ex-intelligence officer to be one step ahead of the goverments persuit. He's wanted because of selling military secrets to the highest bidder and the damage he could cause could be immeasurable as all the dirty little secrets of double cross's and bribes could be revealed.
Ryan Reynolds plays Matt Weston who's frustrated by his inactive post in Cape Town as a "Housekeeper" as he aspires to be a full fledged case officer, he's a loyal company man who has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When his first and only occupant proves to be the most dangerous operative he will ever cross and Weston is drawn into a very shady game.
The film is very well paced with some fantastic action as the two stars try and evade everyone who wants Frost. Reynolds really does hold his own against the star power and talent of Washington and he portrays a man out of his deapth very convincingly with moments of panic. It's also well directed and the South African locations are brilliant. The plots good and keeps you guessing who's on who's side until the end and although un-original makes for a very entertaining , well acted action thriller.
