Queen Ravenna and the Special Effects

The classic fairy tale reimagined as a grungy Lord of the Rings Lite adventure has some good points. It looks amazing, the CGI work is remarkably seamless, the costumes by Colleen Atwood are truly something to behold and Theron is fantastic as the evil queen. But there are big failings too, such as the dwarfs and Prince William who are all largely superfluous. While Stewart is just wrong as Snow White, her indie sensibilities and apparent boredom with the role creating a black hole at the centre of it all.

This was better than i was lead to expect. Okay,so it's not a brilliant film, but it does it's job and does it well.
It keeps to basic story, kind of,then adds a few slants to it,it entertained me and the special effects were stunning,so it would be petty to pick at little things.

Okay,so young girl loses mother, father is tricked by evil witch, gets married, killed, girl escapes, goes on the run is hunted down by a huntsman that is fooled into thinking this will bring his wife back, then the real action starts... and yes, dwarfs do come into it,though the likes of RAY WINSTONE as a dwarf tickled my funny bone.

The special effects are very impressive and the acting, for the most part,is great,i have nothing against K Stewart (TWILIGHT aside),so i can't see whay this gets so laid into,it's very entertaining.
I think anyone that fancies watching this, should watch it,i was not disappointed, but then i did wonder if i'd made a mistake in buying it. I didn't,just enjoy it for what it is.

Plodding plot and an awful over the top Charlize Theron plus the Twilight Vampire girl proving that she simply cant act......

Plus Lovejoy and co as the CGI shrunken dwarves....

Avoid, avoid, avoid!

  Take a bite? Maybe not.

In retelling the story of Snow White, director Rupert Sanders takes the recogniseable elements of the fantasy story from the 1937 Disney version and whacks in a dollop of Lord of The Rings style action.

But with mixed results as the film's weak script and weak performances from Hemsworth (never quite picking from what part of the world his accent is coming from) and Stewart (who I'm not a fan of anyway) even though the visuals of the film are impressive and well done. The best performance assuredly comes from Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, chewing up the scenery with delight.

Overall, it was an OK one time watch for me.

Thought this film was going to be a real hit!
It has got good effects and it twists up the snow white story ,
But it just had something missing and the ending didnt really grab me as i thought it might after a predictable run up!Worth a hire not a buy!

  A visual treat

If you can get over Kristen Stewart's resent affair with the movies director Rupert Sanders, then you may enjoy this movie. Much like the up-dated Red Riding Hood this modern up date is a visual treat with all the classic elements that make it such a classic fairy tale. The star of the movie is easily Charlize Theron who steals every scene she's in playing the evil queen. Kirsten Stewart is easy on the eye Snow White along with Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. Character driven it may not be, as little is known about the Huntsman and the relationship between him and Snow White often feels as frosty as the evil Queen herself. But the movie is fast paced with stunning visual effects and hardly felt like a two hour movie.

Disc was damaged on arrival. 2 small nicks beneath clear plastic cover. But put into perspective this is the first of hundreds of discs bought from play.com over last 8 years I've had to return.

There is not many great fantasy movies these days that follow in the tradition of classics like willow but this is certainly one of them, a beautiful looking movie with epic fantasy and dark evil sorcery and monsters and plenty of good old fashioned fairy tale mixed in, the story is long but is paced out great with something different at every turn, the cast is perfect Kristen Stewart was great as Snow White (and its good to see her break free of twilight) Charlize Theron is amazing as the evil queen and probably the best thing about the movie!! And the dwarfs are hilarious played by some quality British talent like Nick Frost, Ray Winstone and Toby Jones, the effects are top notch all the way, overall this is a darkly superb retelling of a classic story, its original, barrels of fun and epic!! A must see!!
