Alot was riding on the third outing for Daniel Craig as Bond, especially after the less than positive reviews of Quantum Of Solice. It's been a four year break since the last outing. Director Sam Mandes may seem as a strange choice as he is more used to directing character driven dramas and not high octane spy adventures, so how does this lastest installment turn out? I actually saw this in a basic cinema at Boweness Windermere on a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon, no state of the art sound, medium sized screen and seats so cramped my knees were resting in the back of the neck of the person sat directly infront of me. So with this back to basics retro viewing this would show any faults with the film. I have got to say from the moment the pre-title Turkish set action sequence kicks in I was hooked. This is classic Bond and Mandes is proven to be a revelation as the Director as he handles the action but delivers more on the drama. The thing about this movie is that it dares to do something different and takes the series in a whole new direction. This leads to a climax that reminds me of Straw Dogs and with a emotional unexspected sucker punch of a ending. This is Bond at his best, never letting the action get in the way of the character and although some may gripe that it may lack action, this film is all the better for it. Of course this is the 50th anaversary of the series and there as some subtle nods of the Bond movies past, but nothing is shoe horned in as it was in the desasterous 20th movie Day Another Day. Craig just proves he has grown into the role and all the characters play their roles perfectly. The only minor gripe is some obvious product placement, but with such a high budget movie they do need their sponsors. I have tried not to include spoilers as respect to the ones who have not seen this movie yet. All I will say is if you hated the past three films, this will also be greeted with disaproval. But if like me you think Craig is the best incarnation of Bond and his films gritty edge is just what the series needed then Skyfall is premium Bond a massive improvement on the sombre Solice and actually better than the classic Casino Royale.

Will remain as one of the best 007 films of all time.

I had high expectations going in and Skyfall was everything I hoped it would be and more. Personally I've always loved the ones more where Bond is carrying out a mission which is somehow personal to him (such as in Licence To Kill). Casting Bardem as the main antagonist is stroke of genius because as an actor the man is a force of nature. This is also Dench's best and most meaningful turn as M though bittersweet. Can't wait to find out where they take 007 from here.

This is the way Ian Fleming intended James Bond to be. For me this portrays his books more so than any other James Bond film.

As another reviewer has stated, this films dares to do something different and it works incredibly well. Daniel Craig plays Bond to perfection. You see that he is actually human, and not just an invincible action hero. Which gives the audience a more emotional feel towards the character and more connection to the film.

With a few twists, the brilliant introduction to some old characters but with new faces, lots of humour, action packed scenes and the outstanding performances from Judi Dench as M and Javier Bardem as Silva, this film is a MUST SEE!
