Larry Crowne (2011) is a romantic comedy starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Pam Grier, Bryan Cranston and Cedric the Entertainer.
Tom Hanks is one of the most likeable actors of his generation and nobody plays the charming everyday man better. But in this movie he really struggles with a very forgettable and bland character.
Julia Roberts does not fare much better and the two A-list mega stars fail to bring hardly any charisma to the movie. They also lack chemistry and the romance falls flat.
Hanks is perfectly fine director and did a great job injecting energy and fun into his debut That Thing You Do. But with this movie he struggles with a script overly sentimental and far too sweet to be taken seriously.
Both Hanks and Roberts can do much better and it feels like they are coasting along far too easily in this movie. Hanks in particular needs a return to form sooner rather then later.
