In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evils might beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

This is a very entertaining comic book movie that stands apart from your average marvel film, its good to see an original concept for a change from another character in the DC comic range! This movie has allot of visual effects that look top notch and is partly set on another world apart from earth which is pretty cool, the story is great and you dont need to know anything about the comics to get into it, it has a brilliant cast, Ryan Reynolds does well in the lead role and Mark Strong is very cool as Sinestro! This is a fun filled action packed comic movie thats well worth checking out its certainly one of the years best and most unique films!!

I was not sure what to expect from this adaption of the DC comics hero, and also the fact that for me the Green lantern was little known about. In a Summer full of comic book movies (most being an advert for 2012's The Avengers) this film was mauld by the critics and it's box-office potential suffered, but some how some movies sit better when viewed at home when most of the hype has fizzled out, so for me The Green Lantern was a great surprise. Ryan Reynolds is as ever excellent has the hero and has the perfect balance of swagger whilst being a flawed character. The films main problem is it has to deal with alot of back story to fill in the blanks for us who are not in the know of the origins. so the main story that features a fear clowd named after a Laxative called Paralax seems a bit of a second thought. But with so many strange looking aliens in the Green lantern Corps featuring the brilliant Mark Strong the visuals keep the back story element ticking over well. Also with a well rounded love interest in the shape of Blake Lively the film is never dull. It's also nice to see Tim Robbins and Angela (Tina Turna) Basset popping up in small if under written roles. Even Peter Sarsgaard is having a good time as Hal's once friend who ends up infected with evil Yellow fear and morphs into a tefal man. The action is well staged as you would expect from the Director of Golen Eye and Casino Royale that all leads to a rousing climax.
:LET THE END CREDITS ROLL!
As it features what could be the origins of a sequel,as now with all the back story gone I'm sure it would be a much leaner film, but at this moment with a lackluster performance at the Box-Office only time will tell if this get a green light.
Don't be put off by the bad reviews as this is just as good as Marvel's Thor and Captain America.
The added bonus on Blur Ray is a 9 minute longer extended cut that gives time for the characters to be developed more, as well as the Theatrical cut.
See if you like.....

Quite Faithful to DC Comics and some good 3D Usage

have been a big fan of the Green Lantern Series from the earliest days through Justice League and its recent revival with the more modern reinvention.

The film sticks closely to the latest version with Abin Sur, Sinistro and the Core - the plot is familiar to anyone who has read the latest series Secret Origin (Green Lantern).

This Blu Ray package has 3 discs - with extended versions and a good sprinkling of extras. I watched the 3D version and there are long periods where 3D is not relevant and the plot does sag a bit in the middle when there is a lot of dialogue and not much visual interest.

3D takes over for the spectacular alien landscapes, which look truly stunning and the set-piece battles - where things are hurtling about and we are in the air a lot. Mostly the 3D gives depth and shows you background layers - but there are moments when things come towards you - like when the ring is sent out by Abin Sur to find the next Green Lantern - it feels like the green sphere is coming right at you!

3D also adds to the effect of the Lantern costumes, where you can see light rippling and depth is added. The green 'constructs' also stand out as a concept that is particularly suiited to 3D enhancement. The most prominent 3D was actually in the closing titles - where the designers really played with the effects and matched this with the Dolby 5.1 surround soundtrack, which moved sounds around you, to follow the visuals. The hint of a sequel was also intriguing and may make a better film, beyond the obligatory "origin" backstory.

All in all - not a bad film and a nice addition to the list of 3D Blu Rays, where something is added to the experience. Worth buying and a very high quality transfer.

 Happy to make it's aquaintance.

Really rather enjoyed this one. A nice change from some of the super hero tat films that have been wallowing about of late (Green Hornet, Guilty as charged!!) Far fetched fantastic fantasy fun with a good cast, good story, good characters and in all a worth while watch. Inoffensive, entertaining and a good blue ray to boot!
