Award-winning director Joe Wright creates a boldly original suspense thriller with Hanna, starring Academy Award-nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) in the title role.

Raised by her father (Eric Bana of Star Trek), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna's upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.

This is a remarkable movie with a fantastic story and a great cast, Saoirse Ronan who plays Hanna is a fantastic actress and really steals the show, the music for the movie was scored by the chemical brothers and is very unique and plays a major role in making the movie extra cool, a fast paced action packed film, original and brilliant a must see.

 Hits the Target!

I'll not pretend here that the underlying plot of Hanna is entirely new - it's story of revenge is an old one - but here the full marks is for director Joe Wright managing to put an energetic and lively spin to the story and make the old seem new!

Sixteen year old Hanna (Saiorse Ronan) has been raised by her father (Eric Bana) to be an assassin. Her target is CIA agent Marissa Veigler (Cate Blanchett), the woman who murdered her mother years before. Leaving her isolated wintry existence behind, Hanna ventures out into a world she has only read about but never experienced, towards a confrontation with the truth about her life and it's meaning.

In another impressive performance (following from 'The Lovely Bones' and 'Atonement') Ronan is the centre of the film and completely involves you in her journey. One moment she may be dispatching bad guys and escaping underground safehouses, the next she is experiencing true wonder at discovering the world around her and she nails every moment with total believability. She is absolutely one of the finest young actresses around today but here is well supported by Blanchett and Bana.

A fast pace, excellent direction and a pulsating soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers make this a far, far cut above the normal for this genre of film and I would totally recommend it to anyone at all looking for a fantastic thriller.

3 stars for the actors, not the film.

I was expecting a teenage Bourne identity type film from the look of the trailer and although it is full of some great action scenes, it is a little too artsy for me.
Saoirse Ronan gives another great performance and shows that she is destined for great things.

 adding some balance

I felt compelled to write this review after seeing someone had given this film a 5star!! I rarely review anything unless it is exceptionally brilliant or exceptionally dire. This is a 2star movie and I have given it a 1star to add some balance.

The plot is tiresome, girl on the run, gets in a tight spot, kills baddies in spectacular fashion. All the action is handed to you on a plate, with each scene trying to be more spectacular than the next. No subtlty. If however you are of the fast n furious crowd then you may like this movie.

However if, like me, you prefer climatic action wth a rich plot and character depth then there are many other better films out there. Terminator 2 for example is, IMHO, one of the best action films ever made. I also recommend Zatoichi, it's an Enghlish subtitled Japanese Samurai movie, but you will not be disappointed.

Hanna? stick to watching the trailer and dont waste two hours of your life watching the film.
