Adequately done period thriller dramatising a fictional version of the final days in the life of Edgar Allen Poe.
In Baltimore when a young Policeman (Luke Evans) realises a killer has been using Poe's stories to recreate murders in real life, he brings in Poe (John Cusack) to help him. As the murders continue, and the object of Poe's affection (Alice Eve) comes under threat the race is on to deduce the clues and stop the killings.
Coming across in the vein of 'From Hell', the 2001 Jack the Ripper tale 'The Raven' generally looks good, but the overall film is a bit so-so, despite a couple of gruesome moments. There's just something missing to elevate it above being an ordinary genre flick but it's not a total waste of time if your into this type of film. Otherwise, you might get less out of it.
