Adequately done period thriller dramatising a fictional version of the final days in the life of Edgar Allen Poe.

In Baltimore when a young Policeman (Luke Evans) realises a killer has been using Poe's stories to recreate murders in real life, he brings in Poe (John Cusack) to help him. As the murders continue, and the object of Poe's affection (Alice Eve) comes under threat the race is on to deduce the clues and stop the killings.

Coming across in the vein of 'From Hell', the 2001 Jack the Ripper tale 'The Raven' generally looks good, but the overall film is a bit so-so, despite a couple of gruesome moments. There's just something missing to elevate it above being an ordinary genre flick but it's not a total waste of time if your into this type of film. Otherwise, you might get less out of it.

a series of murders rein-act writer 'edgar alan poe's' gruesome stories.
the writer is under suspision for a while, but no charges are brought however as the killer is following the writer's writen word to commit the murders, 'poe' is asked to help profile the killer and try to guess the next target.
when 'poe's' beloved 'emily hamilton' is taken by the killer things turn far more urgent and intense for the writer.
a stylish tale in which 'john cusack' excels in the role of the writer.

what we have here is a murder mystery movie..
if your someone who likes watching a movie guessing who the murderer is then this might be just what your after..
without giving anything away have seen this kind of storyline done before
but it takes nothing away from this movie as the story/cast have been well thought up.the movie moves along at a good pace and will keep you thinking all the way to the end..
all in all if you think sherlock holmes on a much more serious note you will be getting warm to the kind of movie this is..
hope this helps..

This is a fantastic horror thriller, a very dark and gory story about a serial killer following the patterns in stories written by Edgar Allan Poe in the last few days of his life, this to me is a very underrated movie and deserves more credit as it is very good, well directed and has a great cast and has some very bloody gory macabre scenes of death. The movie keeps you interested throughout and for a fictionalized movie was one of the best in a while, make sure you watch this you might be surprised, the bluray picture quality is very good and there are a few features too.

I saw this film and didn't know much about Edgar Allen poe, but it did get me interested. The cast was really good and John Cusack is just fabulous! I would recommend this film.
