All in, this one was a lot better than I had imagined it would have been from some of the trailers prior to release.

In attempting to develop a cure for Alzhiemer's disease (whilst also watching his father suffer from the disease) scientist Will (James Franco) is experimenting with various treatments on a group of chimpanzees. Although promising it has had the side effect of raising the intelligence level of the test subjects. When one of the subjects (a female called Bright Eyes) goes on a rampage his project is shut down but not before realising that she was pregnant and had given birth beforehand. Taking the baby home and calling him Caesar, Will continues his project at home..............leading to a turn of events that will set off the future revolution of one species against another.

Clearly, it's designed to set up a new franchise and I have to say, that after this film I would be quite interested to see the next stage of the story for both the Humans and the Apes. The script is cleverly enough written and the film structured smartly enough for events to play out plausibly within the sci-fi setting, there are a couple of nods to the original franchise and one moment in the film that succeeded in silencing the cinema I was in at the time I saw it. Speaking of which, no review of the film could at all ignore the work done by Andy Serkis playing Caesar through motion-capture CGI. Phenomenal work goes into the character and a lot of the film is 'seen' from the perspective of Caesar so that it is as much his journey as that of Will that the film follows and Serkis' performance is completely spot on.

A very solid film, with great potential for future tales to be told.

 Excellent Prequel

This is a prequel to the classic 1960s film starring Charlton Heston. It deliberately takes its time building up the background story, including subtle hints towards the original film (newspaper reports about a manned flight disappearing - the rocket from the original film), before ratcheting up the action and excitement with the unleashing of the primate fury.

Overall, a highly enjoyable film, well acted, well directed, with mostly excellent effects (apart from a few flat CGI moments in the first 10-20 minutes) - strongly recommended.

very over-hyped movie. the cgi ranges from excellent to ok, and there are scenes where it is very obviously cgi. some good scenes, but overall its a redone classic with a high budget.

Never been a fan of the planet of the apes so was reserved when i bought this film.
But i was so pleased i did buy this and on blue-ray the effects are amazing and the story is well scripted.
It starts of slow but get half way and starts to get going, hopefully another one will be out soon at the cinemas as the next step towards the apes taking over the world.
