Drive is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day (Ryan Gosling), a loner by nature, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA's most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbour, Irene (Carey Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best-Drive!

This movie is one of the years big surprise hits with a brilliant story that is executed with style and paced out so well with plenty of action and drama and explicit violence! The entire cast is brilliant and believable and create very real gritty characters that you can really follow, a very slick and stylish and very original take on a gangster thriller with a hint of a love story, this is probably one of the years best movies so make sure you check it out.

As my title warns don't expect all action car carnage, because you'll come away very disappointed. Drive is a neon drenched thriller shot in the style of early Michael Mann or Tony Scott films. It even has a great 80's feel electro pop soundtrack that makes the whole film feel like it belongs in decades gone, where words were minimal and and it was a mans world.
The film starts with a very tense hide and seek game with the police as Ryan Goslin's character helps crooks escape the law by his exceptional driving skills and his cool head, but by day he is a stunt driver. The film then slows down to a crawl as characters build and back stories build, until the film gets back into gear with some breath taking drops of violence and car carnage.
I'm not going to beat around the bush as this filn will be loved as much as it's loathed, but I found this retro fitted no frills thriller a refreshing change to the GCI and cartoon action of other motorheaded films.
Drive has cult status written all over it.
See if you like......
The Driver.
Theif.
Vanashing Pont.
Bullit.
The Getaway.

 Film of the Year!

Drive was the best thing I saw in Cannes in 2011 and, in fact, the most powerful and memorable film I've seen for very very long time! Refn's directing style is impressively skillful and uncompromising, but its the raw power of Gosling's quiet performance that steals the show.
Not to be missed!!

Like 'MOVIE ADDICT' said in his review DO NOT expect ''mainstream'' WHAM-BAMM hollywood carnage when watchin DRIVE!!! It IS a slow building, & at times COMPLEX crime story but also is a gorgous, mean, moody & at exsploively violent movie, A movie dat takes GREAT pride in substance over style & a movie dat deserves a 2nd watch also.
