Killer Elite (2011) (Blu-ray)

This is a top notch action thriller with a great story, plenty of action, and cool performances from a great cast, Statham is brilliant as usual playing the cool hard man Ex special forces killer and hes backed up with great roles from Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro, this is based on a book and true events which makes it all the more interesting, great action thriller worth picking up!!

'danny's' ( statham ) mentor 'hunter' ( de niro ) is being held with the threat of execution should 'danny' fail to kill the culprits that killed a dying sheikh's' three sons.
the prize 'freedom' for 'hunter' along with a handsome reward offered by the 'sheikh'
as 'danny's' team execute the task, 'spike' ( owen ) a special agent attempts to outwit the assassins and stop them completing their task.
this is a fast moiving and exciting thriller as would you expect with the lead-cast who are among the best actors around.
not sure why there seems to be mixed reviews.....for me....this is a top-notch movie ( based on a true story )

im sure when this idea was formulated on paper that it read well, hence the powerhouse actors de niro and statham. this is the only reason i can think that they would sign to do it. the story, based on a true one, is dull at best. there are a couple of five second action bursts but de niro looks and acts tired and uninterested and there are a few very dodgy accents floating around. not great.

True or inspired by, set aside the need to know otherwise I'll have to kill you. This is a great action movie that when it came out was up against the awful Drive and the even worse Colombiana I was losing faith in movies for the first time in a long time when I sat down to watch this, but came out very surprised, good action sequences coupled with a fast pace, Mckendry also recognized when he needed to slow it down a touch, to allow you to draw breath, then he toes the throttle again, and you wheel spin straight into overdrive again!!! De Niro did look tired and uninterested, but I think that was his character as I don't think he has ever done a role half heartedly, even the occasional stinker, was always well acted, but matter of opinion I guess, and we should remember that like his character, he is entering the twilight of his acting career. If you are after a good story that is based on blood, friendship and repaying a debt, then this is the film for you, sit back and enjoy because for me, it had everything it needed!!, can't sign off without giving a nod to the "Stath" who continues to excel in the action roles and is even getting a grip on this acting thing, will he ever win an oscar? doubt it!! but I bet he doesn't care either.....and whether a blockbuster or not, they always need an englishman playing a lead role!! We simply need more of these in mainstream cinema and can't wait for Blu Ray, although at 17.49 it is a elitist price, It's time Blu ray was set at under 15 quid, so come on Play, lead the way

This great old school style action thriller is based on true events, how much of it actually happend is down to personal opinion, but never the less this is a top-notch action film.
Statham fans will get what they expect with some brutal hand to hand combat but the film is allot more to offer than that,as for all the gun-play there is a good intelligent script and the added class of De Niro and Clive Owen not to forget some of the best facial hair to grace the screen in years. I took part in "Movember" 2011 to help awareness and lots of money to help fight cancer in men and for a month sported a nice 'Tache, but I was in awe of some of the "Tachage" in this film that perfectly complements the 1980 setting of he story, they even managed to get the cars right.
There is plenty of action and double crossing and the explosions are loud, but just when you think the film is about to end it kicks off again all leading to a well judged climax.
Killer Elite is a great thriller with a top class cast and this could be the best film Statham has been in so far, as he surprises by holding his own with acting heavy weights like De Niro and Owen.
