From legendary filmmaker Takashi Miike (13 Assassins, Audition) comes a classic tale of love, honour and revenge amidst the fall of the Samurai in 17th Century Japan. Seeking a noble end, poverty-stricken Samurai Hanshiro requests to commit ritual suicide at the House of Liu, run by headstrong Kageyu. But after being told a tragic story of another Samurai's agonizing suicide, that of Hanshiro's close friend Motome, Hanshiro sets in a motion a tense showdown of vengeance against the house of this feudal lord.

 A GREAT STORY

from the same man who bought us 13 assassins..which i also gave 5 stars for.. now brings us a story of how samurai live once they have finshed being a solider and how they can end there lives with honor..now if your expecting a blood bath you may be a little disappointed but what you do get is a fantastic story of an ex samurai trying to raise and take care of his family in difficult times..as ever money is the key and as you will see this beautiful story develop it also brings a climax towards the end that shows the true meaning of honor..and in my opinion this is as good as 13 assassins..
highly recommended for the story alone..

Truly a fantastic movie with a very gripping plot and characters. Takashi Miike gives life to each of the characters showing their back story which then leads to the main plot of the film. A very interesting approach towards the period of time of the fall of the samurai. In response to lordkreig review about the sword fight, he deflects the blades and then attacks because he didn't fight with the intent to kill. If you enjoy classic samurai movies then you will love this. If your wanting some more action packed with non-stop action then go watch The Raid or Ong Bak. Otherwise you will not be disappointed with Hari-Kiri: Death of a Samurai which looks stunning on Blu-Ray

 Bad Film

I'm a huge fan of this type of movie and have a big collection but this film was pure rubbish silly plot and the fight seens were a joke.
Fighting 30 men with a piece of wood and they were all armed with swords did not enjoy this stick to 13 assassins instead.
