  Reality check

Ok, time for a realistic review of this movie.
You may be drawn to this having seen excellent comic book adaptions from characters in either the Marvel or DC universes.
Or perhaps you rightly think that Ryan Reynolds is an excellent actor.
Either way, you will be left disappointed.
This is an awful movie. From script to characterisation it suffers at every turn. Honestly, I can't think of anything positive to say.
Please, avoid this like the plague.

A bit all over the place but with plenty of CGI candy.

I have to say I really don't think this is one of the better big screen comic incarnations of late but while I don't think the source material or the underlying story of the film is the problem in the case of Green Lantern I think where it does go wrong is in the casting and the direction.

Everything here just seems tonally off, as if the cast are running around in a different film than director Martin Campbell is trying to make. Ryan Reynolds is fine as a comedic actor but he doesn't do very well here when trying to emote or have any depth to Hal Jordan's storyline and Blake Lively is horribly miscast as his love interest Carol Ferris. Even the normally reliable Peter Saarsgard and Tim Robbins just don't work well.

Add in a structure that has us leaping all over the place between Earth and the world of the Lantern's and the film soon becomes a tiresome mess that is barely saved by the presence of tens of millions of dollars of visual effects money and for sure it's glossy and beautifully done on Blu-ray. But that's no big achievement these days on big scale films designed for the format. I'm glad I watched it out of curiosity, but I'll never watch it again.

  "..GREAT FUN.."

This is a very entertaining comic book movie that stands apart from your average marvel film, its good to see an original concept for a change from another character in the DC comic range! This movie has allot of visual effects that look top notch and is partly set on another world apart from earth which is pretty cool, the story is great and you dont need to know anything about the comics to get into it, it has a brilliant cast, Ryan Reynolds does well in the lead role and Mark Strong is very cool as Sinestro! This is a fun filled action packed comic movie thats well worth checking out its certainly one of the years best and most unique films!!

  Green Lantern Rocks!!!

I was thoroughly impressed with this movie and thought Ryan Reynolds did a fantastic job bringing Green Lantern to life.

This was brought to life very impressively (unlike some other Hollywood efforts of late) and I can imagine that the 3d version must've rocked so much at the cinema, but the 2d version didn't stem my enjoyment one bit!

Another comic book success for me!

I suppose I went into this wearing Emerald coloured specs because I loved it! Ive read Green Lantern comics for years and so Ive hoped for a GL movie for years and with this one I was not disappointed could it have been better? Probably...there is such a lot they have to cram into this movie with the green lantern back-story.
Hector Hammond wouldnt have been my choice of villain but, that said, it still didnt spoil my viewing.

No drink required!
