One Last Pay Day... One More Chance To Die!

Legendary hell-raisers Richard Burton and Richard Harris, along with a coolly detached Roger Moore are aging mercenaries with a taste for fine liquor, drawn together for a late but extremely lucrative pay day in The Wild Geese, an African adventure soaked in booze, gunfire and bloodshed.

Colonel Allen Faulkner (Burton) is secretly back in London to accept the task of reinstating an African leader deposed in a violent military coup, but without the combat skills of his two old friends, there isn't going to be a mission. With his two reliable loose cannons in place, Faulkner and the team enact a text book rescue operation but disaster is close at hand when the cynical multinational who set up the whole deal turns the tables, striking a new deal with the local despot which sees The Wild Geese trying to escape with their lives intact.

The Wild Geese are ready for one last mission so finish your drinks and relive this classic old school British action adventure today.

Blu Ray great transfer and excellent value

| | See all Swordfleece's reviews (7)

Always been a big fan of this film ever since seeing it in the cinema in 1978.

Just got this blu ray and the transfer is excellent. 5 out of 5!
We all have different ideas on a good transfer but watched the first 40 mins and
then put on the DVD for comparison and then back and the picture is much clearer,
more brighter and colourful. Great job. Not gonna get any better than this.
The desert Africa scenes in the sun look fantastic.

Another note is the DVD copy times at 2hr 8mins and the Blu Ray is 2hr 14mins.
Where the difference is I have yet to compare.

EXTRAS - You also get a whole extra film of the unofficial sequel - Codename: Wild Geese
starring Lewis Collins, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine and Klaus Kinski. This clocks in
at 1hr 23mins. Watched the first few minutes and has a dodgy Beverley Hills Cop type
soundtrack but looks ok - can't complain though having a 2nd movie for free.

BOOKLET - another surprise is a 22 page booklet covering information on the production
of The Wild Geese, Euan Lloyd (the producer) and Codename: Wild Geese all with photos.
Lets face it, most blu rays you get nothing!

SLEEVE - a final nice touch and the icing on the cake is the sleeve is reversable so if
you don't like the revised image you can turn it around and get the classic DVD cover
version (which I prefer).

To sum a up a great upgrade from DVD for various reasons. This looks even better than
some 90's movies goddammit!!!! Seeing Burton, Harris and Moore in HD.....class!!!!

 'GREAT CAST' 'GREAT FILM'

like many of you, i'm sure, i was allways gonna' buy this ''classic'' movie again when released on the 'blu-ray' format.
it is perhaps one of my all-time favourite ''action'' movies.
the plot see's 'colonol allen faulkner' accept a mission to rescue an 'african' leader who has bee deposed by rebel forces, to achieve this he must put together a group of mercenaries, needing the specialist skills of two old friends to make the mission possible.
the mission goes according to plan --until-- the group that hired the mercenairies betray 'col faulkner' and his men by failing to pick them up at the designated place.
now the team, along with the african leader who needs to be carried have to make a long treck to be clear of danger, however the rebel army is not far behind.
'great cast' led by legendary actor's ''richard burton' 'richard harris' and 'roger moore'
it's a brilliantly exciting action film that will hold your attention throughout.....if you've never seen it.....you won't wanna miss out....enjoy.

 Hasnt aged well.

Loved this film as a kid,so was looking forward to seeing it again, and in HD.Have to say, im a bit disappointed. The blu ray transfer is simply awful. No doubt better than the normal DVD version, but i cant imagine by much. The film is very heavy on grain, and some scenes just look 'dirty'.Aparently the Britsh studio wasnted to create a version of 'where Eagles Dare.Unfortunetly,it comes across as a poor cousin.

Two great mercenary movies on one disc but the bonus is cut!

The Wild Geese looked great on the screen and it is an excellent mercenary movie with a great cast. It is a real classic. The sound is good and the picture is awesome.
Bonus material includes the movie Code Name: Wild Geese. This was the main reason for me ordering it. Unfortunately this movie is only in SD, HD would have been great, but the cut is a no go for me.
I am not talking about just a couple of seconds. We are talking about a time difference of 97 minutes on the German VHS or Switzerland out of print DVD to 84 minutes of the Arrow BD.
Unfortunately the upcoming DVD release is no other option because it will use the same master,
