Hollywood 1927. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), it seems the sky's the limit major movie stardom awaits. The Artist tells the story of their interlinked destinies.

Wonderful film...never mind the hype this witty affectionate portrait of Hollywood's Golden Age has real heart. A film about characters you'll care about & yes the dog is a real star too! Treat yourself to this one. You'll watch this until you wear out the disc & then you'll want to buy another one.

A movie that acts as a love letter to yesteryears movies

Beautifully filmed, beautifully acted, beautiful score. Telling a simple but effective story about a silent movie star and his descent into obscurity at the arrival of the talkies. This film without the use of dialogue captures the emotion and attention of the viewer. If you appreciate movies of yesteryear this movie is a must - if you are Die Hard 17 or a Twilight fan I would give this a miss. Excellent movie that ouzes class for film lovers to appreciate.

Didn't want it to finish !

I bought this film a while back and only recently watched it. I loved it from start to finish. It's brilliant, with a great storyline and the best acting I've seen ina long time. All the hype and awards this film received is truly deserved.

2011's critical darling and Oscar winner is a wonderful reminder that such believed outdated techniques such as Black and White and silence can still create entertainment.

While I was slightly disappointed that the underlying story is very similar to the story of 'A Star is Born' as Jean Dujuardin's silent movie icon finds himself challenged not only by a beautiful new rising star in the charming Berenice Bejo but also the coming age of talkie's which will end the era of silent's.

But with great performances, beautiful old glamorous production design this is a good and entertaining film that can easily be enjoyed by all but is probably of even more interest to cinema buffs as well thanks to it's clear affection for old Hollywood as well.

 dont bother

I didn't get this film after all the hype I bought it expecting a masterpiece I found it boring un-entertaining and wanting to switch it off after a while but decided to watch it to the end I will never watch it again I love old b/w films but not this one I wouldn't recommend it to anyone
