Beautifully filmed, with a stunning depiction of life in the trenches interspersed with flashbacks of a love affair in rural France. Frankly, if the BBC are going to make programmes this good, they can put the licence fee up anytime they like....
I havn't read the book so i cant compare to this but what an epic piece of drama from the BBC. Everything is amazing - the story, cinematography and sound. A storyline that cannot fail to touch you, every scene is just beautifully shot and If you have a surround sound system then the scenes in the trenches are just epic. Stunning stuff.
