Superbly made and engrossing neo-noir that now seems almost like a perfect noir film itself so many years after it was first released sees Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway enmeshed in a labyrythine story of Los Angeles, corruption and secrets. It's also a film that works more and more beautifully on every level the more time you watch it, and that is it's great joy.
The Blu-ray transfer is genuinely very, very good. Especially in any of the outdoor scenes that take place where everything is clean, clear and vibrantly done. Even indoor scenes have this clarity but outdoors moments can be exceptional. However, as noted the disc has to lose a star for having no extras at all. I mean, even the DVD had some limited featurettes on it - so why nothing for this?
That part is a big letdown but the film itself superb.
A wonderful hi def transfer for a great film. Avoid this uk release and buy the us version which comes with all the features from the recent SE DVD plus a new commentary.
