When she finds her homecoming more challenging than expected, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate - and both must face the harsh realities of growing up in this brilliant and bittersweet story critics are hailing as a "blistering black comedy" and "very funny".

Theron makes the movie what it is

Absolutely loved this film, if you're looking for a silly comedy then this film's not for you. It's refreshing to have a dark comedy that is more real and true to the lives than people, it sure made me laugh and had me singing along to the song 'The Concept' which was constantly on in her car.
Overall, worth buying and watching, Theron is amazing as per usual and grasps the character of Mavis Gary's bitchy-ness as well as making us feel rather sorry for her,

Reteaming the writer and director of the 2007 hit 'Juno' and going in a much more darkly comic direction 'Young Adult' features two fantastic performances from Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt as the two people in the middle.

Mavis Gary (Theron) is a woman on a mission. 37 and not getting anywhere an email from her high school boyfriend announcing he and his wife have had a baby, she sets off to steal him back from his family and bring him home with her. Reconnecting also with the high school nerd (Oswalt) who she reveals her plan to Mavis sets about her intentions blindingly oblivious to the damage she intends to cause and equally unaware of how everyone else sees her.

ALthough Mavis is setting out to do a terrible thing the fact that you hate but also hope for her to see the error in her plan is down to the perfect work of Theron. Mavis is highly damaged goods and she plays it in such a way that works great with the equally damaged Matt. Can these two find some semblance of fixing themselves?

With a small but good selection of extras this was a real nice surprise of a film to watch, though it may not be everyones cup of tea thanks to the intentional dislikeability of the main character.
