  '10/10 FOR VISUAL EXCELLENCE'

'douglas quaid' struggles to seperate the dreams he's paid to have from reality in this non-stop action thrill ride, with eye-popping special-effects and electric performances from 'farrell' and 'beckinsale'

Gave this a miss at the cinema...

....glad I did seeing as its the directors cut that is the only one worth seeing. Low expectations....loved it more than I was expecting.

  UPDATED FOR THE NEW GENERATION..

| | See all yardman's reviews (202)

the storyline is the same as the original with a few little tweaks here and there..and when looking at the surrounding areas its like watching a cross between blade runner and i robot which does look impressive..
if your new to this story the movie moves at a very quick pace and pulls you straight in and you dont really have time to hold your breathe as the action is coming thick and fast and it is constant so you may become a little lost when it comes to the storyline..thank god i had seen the original as i might of got a little lost with this one..
the cast all put in fine performances especially kate beckinsale as the rogue wife..
all in all i didnt hate the movie but i didnt love it and it doesnt quite have the ferness of the first as it moves a little to fast and doesnt give you time to absorb and enjoy..

better than the first in so many ways

  Good Sci-fi fun.

This is nothing like the original and is more like a re-imagining. Saw it thinking it wouldn't be any good but was well entertained throughout. If you are a fan of Sci-fi then its worth a look.

  DON'T RECOIL AT THIS RECALL!

Lets be honest ,this film was bound to be hated by the legion of avid fans of the 1990 Arnie classic. I too always had a soft spot for the orginal , but that's no need not to give this update a fair chance. This version keeps closer to the original source novel and keeps it's self on (and through) earth. Colin Farrell makes a for more believable everyman than Arnie as he wants something interesting to remember in his existance. Cate Beckinsale is outstanding as his wife/ex-wife and also Jessica Beil is great value as his fantasy girl. Once Farrell sits in the implant chair at Recall you are bombarded with scorching special effects, the best future city scapes Blade Runner and a none stop chase of fights, gun fire and near misses. I expected little from this film but extreamly impressed. It doesn't matter that the film is far less violent than the original, the same mind bending twists are in place and this update is far less corney. I'm not saying it's better than the 1990 film and this update will never get the same following, but this new vision is not a Total Write-Off.

  "..STICK WITH THE ORIGINAL.."

| | See all sdx800's reviews (1814)

This remake is very different to the original in practically every way, except for the character names and a few plot similarities it really is a completely different movie, for me it didnt work, the original Schwarzenegger version is a cult classic and cannot be matched, the new remake had a much more dull plot and by the end you dont really care what happens, there is not any stand out scene in the movie unlike the original, this was a wasted opportunity to make a very cool sci-fi but unfortunately its all been done before, Colin Farrell was ok but not a convincing Doug Quaid, the thing that was good about it was Kate Bekinsale and Jessica Biel they were great in their roles, the effects were pretty decent and the futuristic look was cool even if it was stolen from Blade Runner and the Fifth Element, overall its worth a watch, newcomers will like it more but fans of the original will get nothing but the feeling to watch the original again which is still the far more superior Total Recall.
