This is a classic 80s must see gangster movie, a very dark and violent film about one man who wants total power over the crime in the city, Christopher Walken plays the lead with so much cool and always makes a quality villain, the supporting cast is brilliant too with so many famous faces!! The movie is very violent with plenty of old school bloodbath shootouts, with a cool soundtrack playing over the whole movie too this is one hot re-release of an old classic, there are plenty of cool bonus features included too for your money and a sweet steel case.

In a career littered with memorable performances, Christopher Walken delivers a masterclass in menace.

Here he plays drug lord Frank White, fresh out of prison and intent on taking up where he left off. Using a gang of hoods (including Laurence Fishburne), he proceeds to wipe out the competition. The police (including Wesley Snipes and David Caruso) are frustrated at being unable to apprehend White by conventional means. So when they turn to more aggresive methods, violence and bloodshed erupts in New York.

Directed by Abel Ferara, king of grime, he really gets into the underbelly of the city, presenting a scummier NYC than we are normally offered on the big screen. The cast get under their characters skins well, Fishburne in particular gives good low-life.

But the film belongs to Walken, bringing his trademark staggered delivery to a role he inhabits brilliantly. Icy-cold, utterly without remorse, its a character that could have been a stereotype in lesser skilled hands.

An overlooked movie, an essential purchase.
