Bleach is a manga phenomenon in its native Japan, having spawned a long-running comic book and a TV series. This is the first feature film in the franchise and it kicks off assuming you know much of the backstory. To the uninitiated, this is all decidedly bewildering, bouncing from one colourful action setpiece to another. But that happens to be part of its appeal: trying to decipher an indecipherable plotline and keep up with what is actually going on. You probably will not succeed, but this is not unenjoyable.
