From director Steven Spielberg comes War Horse, an epic adventure for audiences of all ages.

Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets - British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter - before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man's Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse-an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. War Horse is one of the great stories of friendship and war - a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

great visuals and sounddesign, but no emotional depth until the end. besides this all characters speak fluent english with some minor accent depending on if they are french or german no matter their age - i hate that.
nice to look at, but boring as it can get.

I've read a fair amount of reviews on this film and it really seems to be a case of liked it or didn't. And I have to say - I did.

Steven Spielberg's adaption of Micheal Mopurgo's well loved book as adapted for the stage follows Joey, a horse born in Devon and his journey over several years as he falls through various hands - from a young man in Devon, the British in World War 1 and then the German's to a stunningly hauntingly beautiful No Man's Land near the end of the War. All the way, showing through these loose stories the experiences of humanity against the onslaught of War.

This is Spielberg channeling David Lean, John Ford and painting a visual delight with every scene on the movie canvas. It's unashamedly old fashioned in it's approach and at times skirts familiar Spielberg sentimentality (though it is based on a kids book). But it works a heck of a lot more than it doesn't thanks to an evocative score, nice performances and those beautiful camera shots.
