Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a 30-something man living comfortably in New York balancing a busy job and active social life.

When the wayward Sissy (Carey Mulligan), turns up at his apartment unannounced, Brandon's carefully managed lifestyle spirals out of control.

From award winning director Steve McQueen (Hunger), Shame is a compelling and timely examination of the nature of need, how we live our lives and the experiences that shape us.

Its a dark and at times very grim look at the life of someone who, on the outside is a succesful and confident individual but on the inside is a tormented soul.

Michael Fassbender is utterly sublime, a flawless portrayal of such a damaged character and the supporting cast are equally as good. The locations are real, the relationships and dialogue is real....I cannot praise the film enough.

Current price is an absolute bargain.

Incredible film, not for everyone though!

Let me start with this; Shame is an incredible film. Let me also say it is only for people who can watch explicit films as I'm sure you're aware the film is very sexually explicit.
A brilliant character film which is a great look at a person so disgusted with himself yet totally unable to escape his problems which I'm sure we can all relate to in one way or another, if you can stand it I would check this film out, I've not seen anything like this. Michael Fassbender is awesome as Brandon and was totally overlooked come awards season (probably due to the content and story of the film).
I've given the film 4 stars because I can tell it won't be for everyone but in my opinion it's a 5 star film, definitely worth a look, maybe check the trailer out first! Recommended watch, not for the easily offended

 Shame.

Powerhouse and committed performances from Micheal Fassbender and Carey Mulligan centralise this story of an outwardly successful man and the deep addiction that he lives with every day. A life made more complicated when his sister turns up on his doorstep with her own problems, bringing all of his own secrets rushing to the surface.

Obviously the fact that it's about sexual addiction makes it more controversial and graphic than if it had been alcohol or drugs that Brandon was addicted to but there's nothing titillating about the sex depicted here so don't be imagining cheap thrills are to be found. This is depressing, compulsive and often grimy sex driven by Brandon's own demons and not for romance or love.

I'm not even sure that it's the sort of film that could be repeatedly watched, because it's filled with very damaged people doing damaging things, but as a piece of film-making about a subject rarely looked at in film or in general this is indeed strong cinema for those with the mind to watch it.
