I think it's just great. Great story, not exactle like the books but close enough (books also great).
Great plot and a lot of action.

John Carter... "...I can jump high..."

My own opinion from having experienced the 3D movie at the cinema... it's marmite -

Over long and over bearing story stretched to the limits... a decent storyline would have benefited the cast and the movie immensely... all CGI and no knickers... an austrialian living the life of Calamity Jane suddenly becomes an expert with a samurai sword... oh yes.. he can jump.

The 3D is irritating.. during some scenes, characters within the movie obscure your view, when it would be best to be as a participant rather than as an outsider to the group. Try the movie - but rent it.

  HE LOVES A GOOD JUMP!

This is a film that was almost impossible to market due to it's title, John Carter Of Mars would keep the women away John Carter and the Martian princess would kep them all away, so Disney settled on John Carter and everyone stayed away. Disney now have to lick their wounds and brace for a predicted 200 Million Dollar loss, but to honest this is not a reflection of the movies quality. John Carter is a good old fashioned bit of escapism. With a good cast, amazing looking sets, fantastic special effects, the price tag of the film is all to see on the big screen, but with all of this there is a price and that sits with the story. After setting things up nicely on the American great plains just after the civil war the film shoots John off to Mars to fight against another power mad race under some kind of mind control. The film then begins to drag on with nice effects to liven things up and only to get the pace back on track in the final quarter. It seems the film may have been butchered in the editing process as there is some good moments of a hinted much darker back story, but is never told, maybe to explained in what was supposed to be Disney's new franchise. It's a pity as what should have been outstanding just is happy to be watchable and forgettable and as for the Box-Office a franchise seems very unlikely, which is a pity as I would have liked to see another adventure with John What's His Face.
See If you like......
The Phantom Menace.
Attack Of The Clones.
Waterworld.
Cowboys and Aliens.

I enjoyed the film a good storyline acting a bit for poor in places. Blu-ray quality goods sound quality good. was not impressed with the 3-D I don't know if it was filmed in 3-D or converted to 3-D

  A Good Romp

This is an excellent sci-fi romp. Good story, battles and a sexy princess. The 3D isn't too bad either.

The folk that criticise this film for ripping off the likes of Star Wars, clearly don't realise that this came first. It's a bit like the folk that think Dracula rips off Twilight.

John Carter is certainly worth a watch if you like either sci-fi, or adventure romps.

  'ENJOYABLE 'SCI-F'I ACTION MOVIE'

| | See all rbmusicman's reviews (896)

'john carter' doesn't want to coninue to fight for any cause, he's seen enough on the battle field.
however in saving a senior officer from the 'apache's' he becomes involved in a tussel with an unknown being in the cave he had fled to, winning the fight he see's a pendant in his attackers hand which appears to have lit-up, taking it, he mysteriously finds himself transported to 'barsoom' a planet he knows as 'mars'
'barsoom' is a largely baron planet but does have life, the planets army's are in a constant battle against each other.
'john carter' realizes that with his help he can save a 'warrior' princess from a marriage she does not want and help unite a planet, bringing peace.
this is an action-packed sci-fi film with much in the way of eye-popping 'cgi' which is advancing in terms of spectacular at quite a pace.
a disney treat worth watching in both or either 3D or 2D vision.

A throwback to classic sci-fi with some great effects, solid depth in the 3D and an enjoyable plot.

Easily one of the best films of the year

I had a terrific time with JOHN CARTER, and I truly think the majority of you will too. Ignore the buzz, and make up your own minds.
