Saving Private Ryan: Paramount Centenary Edition (Exclusive Steelbook) (Blu-ray)

In direct response to some of the reviews here:

This SteelBook seems like a money-maker?... What would it normally be then? To "honor the film"?... Of course it's to make money! Why else would they make a new edition and in the over-popular SteelBook-case no less?

I think this SteelBook looks great. I don't know what else you want from it? I don't know what you'd mean by that "it leaves a lot to be desired".
Personally I saw this design in a regular DVD-case and wished it was an actual metal case. Well, a couple of years later, there it is.
If you don't like this get a different SteelBook of this movie (it's out there), and then don't come here and complain about it.

It IS silly that they left out the second disc for some reason though. It's just weird, cause they tend to just include like 3 or more discs in some editions at times, and now it's just one.

I also don't get the complaints about the image-quality, it looks excellent.
It's one of the clearest transfer out there without any artificial enhancements.
Stop complaining about good products.

What a really bad poor for Paramount to celebrate their centenary. Saving Private Ryan is an excellent film, but there's nothing special about this edition apart from the steel case! What a let down.

Beware this edition although it does not state,is only 1 disc.
disc 2 which is not included has all the extras, including shooting war,
an 80 minute documentary about the photograghers of war, whom risked their lives taking amazing photograghs. well worth having.

Really just want to echo what's already been said. The movie and Bluray quality are excellent, this Steelbook leaves a lot to be desired, feels like a money-maker nothing more, nothing less.

The case is excellent, then again, I'm a Steelbook collector!! It's a damn shame that this only contains Disc 1 of what should be a 2 disc set.
Steelbooks should be the pinnacle of a Bluray release, this sadly, is not.

An increasingly annoying trend is the double dip. However if your expecting the dvd anniversary version you wont find it here. With absolutely no extras and a picture that only highlights the films dust and pop marks this is no good to anyone other than the completists looking for the steelbook. The film though is still a benchmark in modern cinema.

ok lets start with the steelbook it feels well made but its not the best looking one has artwork on the inside which i thought looked better than the outside..
there are plenty of audio selections in 5.1 dts including...
english..
french..
german..
italian..
spanish..also the same for the subtitles..
i personally thought the picture is a bit of a mix..now i know they like to keep it a little grainy for that life like feel but when the beach assult finishes the picture can sometimes look spot on and then go back to being grainy my thoughts were make your mind up..
the extras are a big no no..not even a trailer..
so the question is if your steelbook collector yea good price will add to the collection other than that it brings nothing new..

Great Steelbook,which is the one disc movie only version. There is no 2nd disc of special features. The disc is identical to the one in the non steelbook 2 disc only edition!

Love this film and received my steelbook today but it looks like they have just grabbed disc one from the normal release and bunged in this. My PS3 even said Saving Private Ryan Disc 1........ very disappointed in this release.
