Based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore, Watchmen is a complex, multi-layered, mystery adventure which is directed by 300's Zack Snyder and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode and Patrick Wilson.

Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the 'Doomsday Clock' - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight.

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...But who is watching the Watchmen?

Watchmen is one of those films that's a hit and miss for some people.
I personally enjoyed this film and did the comic book justice, even with certain tweaks that i really feel were necessary: towards the end of the comic a giant squid appears....
not to be found here, and if they did include this i feel the film would have got even more teared apart than it did by critics.

HOWEVER If you loved the film like me and you're a steelbook nut YOU NEED TO GET this!
A fine addition to my collection and what surprised me even more was the fact that it's the directors cut of the film! From what i've heard it's vastly superior to the original cut, though I can't exactly comment on this cut myself as I haven't seen it yet.
One downside for me is the fact it doesn't come with bonus features (boo) but then again neither did the DVD copy of the cinematic cut.... no loss / gain there then! Despite this the steelbook itself gets a 5/5 from me due to the fact you really can tell thought went into the choice of art work and cut of the film, which compared to other steels out / soon to be out in terms of price / value for money (10 pounds as of its release) you really can't complain.

I don't want to live on this planet any more...

Great film and deserving recipient of five star score. But this is currently the top selling bluray. The non steelbook is available 14 pounds cheaper on this same site. This means thousands of people paying a 255% mark up FOR THE PACKAGING. End the tyranny of steelbook double, even triple and quadruple dipping and be content to just enjoy the film.

Quite simply the biggest waste of money in the world, the plot is boring, the film is total papp. THE ONLY BLU-RAY I HAVE EVER TAKEN BACK. I waited for something to happen and then it ended. If you like watching paint dry, or watching leaves falling from trees in slow motion this is the film for you.
