Battleship (With UltraViolet) (Blu-ray)

After Battle ship sank (pardon the pun) at the Box-office,the studio blamed it two things One was The Avengers Assemble hooveing up the punters. And Two was the knee jerk reaction to people wondering why they should spend money on a movie based on a Board game?
Avoiding the subject that if the movie had made a bit of sense in the first place might have helped the ctitics warm to it. But this film is no worse than the Transformers movies and now in reflection if they had held fire and released in at the back end of the summer this film could have performed much better. This 209 million Dollar behemoth is far more fun and insane than you'd have thought possible. Even leaving aside some of the slapstick around a burrito and Liam Neeson playing a Dad time warmed from 1880, there's a late story twist that not only justifies the title that underlines the U.S. Navy's enthusiastic involvment, but also boggles the mind, but by the time AC/DC's Thunder Struck started to blast out I was having too much fun to give a damn. It's full of massive ships, big guns, great explosions, loads of people shouting, naff flag waving patriotism that would have seemed OTT on VJ Day, and to top it all it's so skull shakingly nuts it's hard not to crack a smile.
It was never supposed to be a serious movie, but how could it have been, it's just a load of big budget fun.

Very rarely do i feel compelled to write a review, especially for a truly dreadful film like Battleship, but I feel the need to readdress the balance for the ludicrous 5 star ratings others have given it.

If like me, you can turn your brain off to watch a blockbuster film, and manage to enjoy the big budget, over the top special effects, and weak dialogue, eg: anything by Michael Bay, then you are STILL going to be massively disappointed.

The acting is terrible, the cast is terrible (except Liam Neeson whose role is so brief it is not worth him being there) the plot is pathetic, and the ending is so ridiculous that it makes Independence Day seem intelligent.

This film could have been so much more: the fact it has Liam Neeson in it, that Battleships are used to take on alien vessels, how cool are Battleships?...very, very cool in my opinion...however, what is seriously uncool (perhaps as uncool as is humanly possible) is to use these amazing ships in a manner almost identical to the board game Battleships, in a deliberate movie / board game tie in.

So you may ask yourself, just how exactly do you make a movie version of the board game Battleships? The answer is: if you had any common decency whatsoever, then you do not!

What next? perhaps a movie franchise about Hungry Hippos starring Sir Ian McKellan and the girl from the Black Eyed Peas

If you like serious films maybe its not for you but if you know what to expect ie great action, corny love angle, bad boy comes good then roll out the popcorn, put the cat out and turn up the surround sound, its a total blast !!!!!

As the previous reviewers have said this is a film where you can leave your brain at the door having said that It's great fun and has some of the coolest Alien's in a long while Their body armour being very similar to Master Cheifs in the Halo game series, yes the first 15 mins are a bit soppy but once the action gets going there are some great set scenes of devastation, not sure if Taylor Kitsch was the right person for the job but hey ho.
