Battleship (With UltraViolet) (Blu-ray)

I'm seriously worried at the people who are giving this tripe high scores, it is an absolutely terrible movie and feel sorry for anyone who has spent any money on this trash. The acting is laughable and the cgi is very poor. Avoid like the plague.

This film is 100% ridiculous and 100% entertaining, its not trying to be realistic its a popcorn movie taken to the max. If you want to see a $200 million dollar budget movie with insane special effects that has a 70 year old Battleship going up against an alien mother ship and unlikely heroes fighting to save the Planet, then this film is for you.

Leave common sense at the door, crank up the surround sound, and prepare to be thrilled.

This is a must have Blu-ray, this is what blu-ray was made for!

if u like a film that makes america look good and win even though the plot line was as thin as ice the acting was dreadfull if u like all that then buy it off me as i wont ever watch my copy again

I bought this on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Being an old so and so Hasbro means my Action Man to me, but this is full of Action, man (sorry for the pun and american title spelling) If you can forget the corny soccer scenes and the lame character build up this starts to grow in tension. The film plays all the top cards used so often in many a film but the way they fall is better than average. The FX are above normal and the soundtrack pumps the film along and being a Hasbro production (a global brand) it does not make all yanks John Wayne clones and every other nation wimps. I like my sci fi alien invasion movies and this is a good all rounder for older kids and adults like me (in their 50's) I bought this on the cheap after not wanting to pay to watch it on Sky in case it was naff. I am pleased to say that this boat rocks and in part plays homage to the days of old and the fact that the world is not always saved by white teethed glam boys who have little focus on life. If you like alien invasion movies this is one to add to the collection.

Films like Battleship tend to prove something I've suspected for a long time now. And that is, for as much bile as the likes of Micheal Bay and Roland Emmerich recieve for their visual effects popcorn blockbusters..............if it was really that easy to make one to order then Battleship on paper should have been a slam dunk instead of a flop.

But it isn't. It's a wreck instead. Which I guess makes those guys waaaaay more talented than Peter Berg and the folks involved in it as we follow the story of Aliens landing in the Pacific Ocean and rise up, leaving only one ship and her woefully unprepared crew to save the planet from invading hordes and destruction. With a terrible cast making no effort, a ridiculous script and no sense of humour at all it all just makes me want to watch Transformers or Independence Day instead because both are much better made than this. And sure, it might be odd to like those films and be left critical of Battleship......but enjoying a good mindless popcorn destructathon doesn't automatically mean liking them all and this is a badly done one.

However, to give it it's due it has extremely glossy visual effects and you can have fun watching what other films Berg almost directly stole some of his shots from along the way while you watch. It's worth a watch on the visual effects score but little else.

Battleship (2012) is an overblown sci-fi thriller starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Liam Neeson.

Battleship is based on the old Hasbro game and that really sums this movie up. This is a really dumb movie. Completely cheesy and totally over the top.

Taylor Kitsch is a weak leading man lacking charisma while Rihanna should stick to singing if this performance is anything to go on. Even the ever reliable Liam Neeson struggles in this movie.

Director Peter Berg (Hancock) steals his action style from Michael Bay delivering a glossy looking cheese fest resembling Transformers crossed with Independence Day.

To be fair to Berg the movie looks polished and some of the action does work but its the script that spoils this movie. The dialogue is awful embarrassing the actors and the plot is laughable.

Was hesitant after some of the reviews. Lower scores than transformers films and other of the genre. Have to say I LOVED it. Tonnes if action and big booms. Surround sound earned its pay playing this one. The combat sequences are amazing and way better than transformers. Yes it's not particularly original and the acting is fine but not Oscar winning ( even Rihanna acted well contrary to other opinions ). If you like action scifi I can't see how you wouldnt like this. The blu ray is top notch. And you get iTunes version plus ultraviolet.

I am not a fan of war movies though this is not really your classic war film. Its a movie based on classic Hasbro naval combat game. And in the true spirit of the game you do get to see them play battleships in one particular scene

Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships that come across an alien armada while on a Naval war games exercise. An alien invasion which puts the very fate of the human race at stake. The invasion comes after scientists had been sending transmissions to a newly discovered planet almost identical to our own in the hope that its inhabitants might be friendly. They are not and It is left to the US Navy to defend the planet against the fear of possible human extinction after 25000 people are wasted in Hong Kong by an out of control alien craft. The only problem being the aliens creating a force-field that's two nautical miles wide and rises more than 300000 feet in the air trapping the all but 3 Navy vessels.

There are some good battle scenes in the movie and the use of CGI is truly unreal, hardly noticeable although there are one or two slightly scratchy scenes. Overall though superb. The Blu Ray as always is also superb quality.

Battleship seems to have received much criticism and some say its storyline is none too great but I have to strongly disagree. I can honestly say I really enjoyed watching this movie without a shadow of doubt and if your a fan of Transformers as I am I would recommend you watch this movie.

I do love my big Blockbuster UFO movies - this did not disapoint, the Blue Ray is brilliant, maybe the best special effects I've ever seen in a movie. It starts slow but then put on your seatbelt. Loved every minute of it. Brilliant Sci-Fi escapism. And remember you all of out there UFO's are real.

After Battle ship sank (pardon the pun) at the Box-office,the studio blamed it two things One was The Avengers Assemble hooveing up the punters. And Two was the knee jerk reaction to people wondering why they should spend money on a movie based on a Board game?
Avoiding the subject that if the movie had made a bit of sense in the first place might have helped the ctitics warm to it. But this film is no worse than the Transformers movies and now in reflection if they had held fire and released in at the back end of the summer this film could have performed much better. This 209 million Dollar behemoth is far more fun and insane than you'd have thought possible. Even leaving aside some of the slapstick around a burrito and Liam Neeson playing a Dad time warmed from 1880, there's a late story twist that not only justifies the title that underlines the U.S. Navy's enthusiastic involvment, but also boggles the mind, but by the time AC/DC's Thunder Struck started to blast out I was having too much fun to give a damn. It's full of massive ships, big guns, great explosions, loads of people shouting, naff flag waving patriotism that would have seemed OTT on VJ Day, and to top it all it's so skull shakingly nuts it's hard not to crack a smile.
It was never supposed to be a serious movie, but how could it have been, it's just a load of big budget fun.
