  The Avengers Disassembled

You can gather what the film was about from the film description and countless online sources. My opinion of the film in brief: Excellent.

Let me tell you about the blu-ray. The film is excellently adapted to the format with great quality and sound. Bizarrely enough though, the film comes with NO commentary.

The extra features: this segment is where Marvel Studios have stood out with all their release (and Marvel with most other films too), but in contrast, the biggest Marvel film to date has perhaps the weakest showcase in comparison. It consists of a little banter and fun with a gag reel, a bit of behind the design fluff with an art reel of the Avengers which doesn't show much of interest, and the best part of the extras, some great yet understandably omitted deleted scenes, a Marvel Studios short film called Marvel One-Shot: Item 47" (an entertaining piece looking at the aftermath of The Avengers, and how a couple who find a Chitauri gun left behind, and use it as a way to make money.)

Where the fail falls in this is my 3 of the 4 favourite expectancies with comic book film releases: commentary, character's comic history, and the making of featurette (the 4th would be the deleted scenes.) To my disgust as a fan, I learned after purchase that the film had none of these... OUTSIDE of the North American release, so all these glorious little features (and more) are available from there only.

Disney (the distributors and Marvel parent company) did an announcement later, and explained they missed a deadline, so they won't bother putting it on blu-ray/releasing another version with these features (at least not in the near future) and actually went on to say buy it region-free from USA. This comes at a much higher cost, and probably (from past import experience) won't allow digital copy usage for the film and soundtrack.

Very, very lame. Film aside, I paid 18 quid for a film and little additional interest to me outside of it (I'm a guy who appreciates bonus features, as a self-confessed cinephile.) There is no real product value and at this price, more is expected.

Then again, if you don't care for that extra juicy stuff that caramelises over the plump piece of well cooked steak, this will be perfect for you (if price isn't a concern.)

Rating: I'll give a star for the film, quality on blu-ray, extras, commentary, and value-for-money. I only gave it two, for film and quality.

Before you all start this is the type of movie i say turn your brain off and just enjoy the movie for what it is pure entertainment.I love my comic book films but not the latest batman hate the way they have brought him into the real world and it takes its self to serious . The Avengers is just pure popcorn enjoyment you have all the marvel super heroes from there films of late in one big film.the 3D is top and the film rolls along at a good pace.

  A Marvel of a film

The film brings together four of Marvels most best super-hero franchises into one movie and manages to make it work really well. While a lot of the back stories are dealt with by the individual movies that pre-ceeded this, it's not essential to watch those first although it does help.
The film sees Thor's 'brother' Loki team up with the Chitauri Army to try and take-over Earth, in response Nick Fury calls together the Avengers to prevent Loki's plan from succeeding.
The film is one of the most action packed blockbusters released this year and yet doesn't suffer for it with its scripting. It's well written and manages to get the blend of seriousness and humour just about spot on.
The acting is of a high standard throughout, and although there are a lot of big names involved it doesn't feel like one of them is ever stealing the show over the others. That being said Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk is amazing.
The 3D conversion works very well and manages to get a good sense of depth throughout, I would say it is one of the better post-converted 3D films available.
The ending sets it up very well for the following individual sequels but I can't wait to the follow-up to the Avengers.

  Great film, appalling extras

Absolutely love this film - definitely film of the year for me.

BUT, this release does not do it justice at all. A key death has been edited, and where on earth is the directors commentary? A very, very poor release - this will be going back, and the region-free US version purchased that does have all of the extras

  Where's the extra's??

I thought that spending a premium for a 3D and 2D blu-ray pack would give me all the extra's that the US version has. Instead, no Joss Whedon commentary and a watered down death of Agent Coulson, with just a smattering of additional content. Item 47 was good however. The movie was excellent but this Blu ray pack has disappointed terribly!!

Great Film let down by poor Extras

***** Star Movie
But I was looking forward to watching the extras. The Marvel One Shot was OK but not brilliant / the deleted scenes were throw away / a tiny little 6 minute documentary and a gag reel that was good.

Now where was the commentary and I was expecting an in-depth documentary considering how big a film The Avengers is. No doubt in a couple of months their will be a Collectors Edition with these Extras. But I saw the movie twice at the theatre and I will not be double dipping for something I should of got on my first purchase. Is it just me?

got this movie thursday before it's release; so well done play!
The movie is amazing. I thought I'd seen the best 3-D with few other movies, but this was fantastic for a t.v. There's not just depth, but you have super heroes coming out into your living room; especially iron man.
If you love 3-D and super heroes, this is a must buy. The story builds for an epic finale that'll you'll want to watch over again. great replay value!
