A supernatural action thriller is how the director himself describes the film, but fails to add that it was probably meant for younger audiences - it deserves its 12 rating. If you are looking for the usual witch thriller stuff (blood, nudity and supernatural violence) look somewhere else. The most chilling moments of this feature are the spider scenes and that only if you happen to hate spiders. Otherwise, all you get is a couple of "don't look behind you" scenes and lots of quite well done special FX. The young actors are all good looking and quite convincing in their roles, but identifying them is a bit hard, especially at the beginning, since there's a lot of them introduced all at the same time. The action is limited to fights using remote "magic control" punches and some high speed driving resulting in bloodless accidents (the heroes are sort of invincible after all). That said, the film manages to capture your interest and keep it until the (somewhat predictable) end, if only because of its likable characters, beautiful scenery and the fact that it is very well made from a technical point of view.
The disc itself gives a rich selection of soundtracks (DD & PCM 5.1 English and Spanish ; DD 5.1 Czech, Hungarian, Polish + English Audio Description Track) and subtitles (Arabic, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English & English SDH, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish), reflecting Sony's effort to introduce the Blu Ray format to as many countries as possible. The 97 min. feature itself is presented in colour, widescreen (2.35:1) but picture quality, while adequate, is not up to top Hi Def standards. The sound is rich and crisp but to give a proper opinion I'd need to hear the PCM track, which I cannot access in its full 5.1 glory for the time being.
As far as Extras go, the disc includes an Audio commentary with the Director plus a short Making of featurette (standard def, 18:45 mins.), both with removable subtitles (English, Spanish, Dutch). You also get 4 previews (Casino Royale, All the King's Men, Big Fish, Ghost Rider) and that's about it.
All in all, not a bad movie, rather enjoyable actually, but it could do with some more excitement and the Blu Ray edition could have been richer and better. I give it 3 stars for both film content and disc quality.
