Superman The Movie: Special Edition (Blu-ray)

Ok, i will not go on about the story line as everybody is aware of this story by now. The main thing about the Blu-Ray version is how good it looks.
Remembering this film is nearly 30 years it's remarkable how good the picture is and is noticeable over the standard DVD version. With vibrant colours and great detail it really is good to see a classic film looking this nice. It does not stop there, the sound is also fantastic and only enhanced by the Blu-Ray format.
Overall this is a good addition to the Blu-Ray catalogue and it's nice to see a good film getting a good transfer.

I am pleased at last to see that most people are reviewing the quality of bluray rather than the film. Especially on old films that we've all seen and know.
These reviews encouraged me to give Superman a chance, even though its 20 + years old.
One of my favourite films of all time has never looked better. The colours look amazing and the quality of the picture is stunning.
We all know its far far better than the new film and now it has visuals to match.

This is an amazing transfer, the balcony scene with Superman and Lois is fantastic and Supermans suit looks incredible. Some scenes where a little grainy but overall this is another fine example that even old material can be transfered to HD if the time and effort is put into it.
This does not dissapoint!!!

Brilliant Movie. One of the Original and Best Superhero movies ever made.
The film takes its time to establish events and characters and then when the story kicks on, it is genuinely exciting.
The casting is spot on, Christopher Reeves IS Superman, I dont think anyone will ever be as good as him.
The rest of the cast are in top form with Gene Hackman hamming it up, Marlon Brando adding Gravitas and Margot Kidder very good as Lois Lane.

What can I say about Superman The Movie that you don't already know? Superb film coupled with an excellent music score that has stood the test of time and become a classic. The Blue-ray version includes some extra scenes and one of the extras is the actually screen test with Christopher Reeve. The only downside to this Blu-ray version is the picture quality hence the 3 star rating. I have the movie on normal DVD and can honestly say I can't see a difference, apart from the cost! I'm slightly lost at why film studios would release movie classics like Superman without putting in some effort to make it worth buying. It's made me weary now about purchasing other classics unless there is clear evidence that the studios have transferred/restored/digitised the original film stock before releasing onto Blu-ray. Otherwise I suggest you purchase on normal DVD.
