Rise Of The Footsoldier: Limited Extreme Extended Edition (With DVD) (Blu-ray)

The chances are that if you like this sort of film then you already own the original version - if you don't, then this new cut is well worth buying. The big question is whether it's worth buying again if you do own the first version. It's a toughie to be honest. It stretches the running time to 2hrs 15mins by making the football sections slightly longer and padding out the story in places but it doesn't make a huge difference on the story. The new interview with director Julian Gilbey isn't very long, and is basically just him trying to justify us buying the new version. The other extras aren't new apart from a new commentary track with Gilbey and actor Terry Stone, which is quite entertaining but not worth 13 quid on its own.
The Blu Ray transfer is fine, and the sound is great - the music works really well so quality wise you won't be disappointed.
The bottom line is that if you can afford to buy this again then do it, especially if it drops in price soon. I really liked the original and although this didn't offer anything major it still came back as the brutal, exciting and violent film it was 5 years ago. There has been a few films and documentaries about the Landrover shootings over the years, with one of the latest versions suggesting Darren Nicholls (whose sole testimony put Steele and Whomes away) was actually an undercover police officer. This isn't mentioned in the film, but is another take on a mystery that just doesn't seem to want to go away.
