Top 10 DVD Reviewer

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind came out the same year as Star Wars: New Hope in 1977 and two years before Alien which was in 1979. Out of the three films I feel Close Encounters has aged the most and isn't such an enjoyable film but, still is fantastic in it's own right. The U.F.O.'s look great for when the film was made over thirty years ago especially the Mothership. 95% of the Blu-ray transfer is spot on and the other 5% is a little bit grainy. The amount of bass from this film in surround sound is defying!
The packaging for Close Encounters is most excellent which is in a nice slip case with a large booklet and a poster too. There are three different versions of the film on the first disc and on the scond disc lots of interesting bonus features to do with the making of Close Encounters. All in all worth buying if you love Si-Fi and the ending is so terrific it's worth it for that alone!

This is an all time classic in my opinion. Any serious film fan would already have this on the double disc dvd version, but if you really want one of the best visual discs on your full hd tv, buy this blu-ray version.

The transfer is astonishing crisp and sharp on this lovingly packaged BD. You get the theatrical release version, the special edition, and the director's cut of the film all in gloriously 1080P. You also get a lovely gatefold box set with these discs packed with an exclusive booklet and poster! Lovely stuff!

This was Spielberg at his purest, when sentiment wasn't overdone, but served a reason in his films. It's also interesting to note, that similar to E.T., there are no real bad guys in the movie, just a terrific sense of awe, wonder and innocence that have been sorely missed in Spielberg's more recent films.

Before i start, i love this film and i know how old it is but there is some awesome scenes in this blu ray that look amazing! and then there is some that just look plain bad!
I understand its harder to perfect older films but i also own blade runner which just looks great in blu ray and has no faults in my humble opinion. So why such big differences, who knows?
The sound is amazing, its as though the aliens are landing in your home lol!
Its worth a buy but be aware the picture quality is grainy is some parts and amazing in others!
Movie 10/10
blu ray 7/10

I'm not going to go all 'Barry Norman' with this review;just a few quick pointers for potential buyers.I recieved this today and I have to say I'm very impressed with the whole package.Like the region 1 edition this also comes with a poster and a nice little booklet with cast details and a few thoughts and qoutes from Director Steven Spielberg. The film as you'd expect is beautifully crafted and though slow moving at times-there are some really memorable scenes to wait for.For me Spielberg is the finest director I've ever seen and this movie certainly doesn't disapoint his fans. The price of this dvd is very good and you certainly wont have seen the movie looking or sounding better but just be aware that Blu Ray can't work miracles-the darker scenes and surprisingly many other scenes are very grainy indeed-and I would say that this is one of the weaker releases out there if you're trying to showcase the quality of Blu Ray.Over all this is well worth the money, the film is very good, there's a decent amount of extras and the overall package-style wise-is nicely presented.

i am thirty now and this film just doesn't seem to age as much as me. I have not seen it on blu ray yet and that is why i am getting this edition of it. Possible one of the best sci fi films ever made and for me it still has one of the eeriest abduction scenes in any of the alien invasion films which is the young boy scene it always scares me, but maybe i am just too soft :). Brilliant film and brilliant acting all round get it.

I have bought the Region 1 version as it comes with a poster and tells you what as been edited on the 3 versions of the film.

The Region 1 version is a bit more money but worth every penny and its confirmed as Region free.

If you have a great surround then check out the scene where Roy Neary first encounters a UFO in his pick-up truck it delivers some of the most intense low bass I've ever heard on a home theater mix.
