This is a must see for any war film fan. I think this is best viewed in its original German language with sub titles for the best atmosphere. warning though, get a good supply of munchies and beer in, its a very long film.
You will not be disappointed with this one!

Just bought this and watched it for the first time ever - i have been simply blown away by the whole film - Every single second is superb, every shot amazing and the full (nearly) 4 hrs just flew by as you are drawn into the sailors lives - I have watched most war films ever made but this is the best , and most watchable, war film i have ever seen - trust me , you wont spend a better 7.50 - This is truly a must own for any movie fan - BUY THIS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Waited with baited breath for my bluray copy which arrived yesterday . So settled in last night to watch it great anticipation. What a dissapointment. The sound is very low compared to other bluray movies I own and you have to turn up your tv or a/v amplifier very high to hear clearly. I have a high end a/v amplifier and had the volume up at about 85% to get what I was so looking forward to.. the depth charges and sheer panic. Why is the sound so low? You are warned

  Hoped for the longest version

This is the best warmovie created. I have all versions on Dvd. I was hoping for the longest 4+ hours version but this 3 hours and 28 minutes (approx) is good also. I would even like to see this in an special collectors edition box.

Best War Film, Top 5 Film over-all...

Without a doubt this is the best and most thought provoking war film I have seen, and as others have said, the length of the movie, and the fact it is subtitled do nothing to detract from its immense story telling quality! Unmatched in its intensity, its personal level of story telling and its gripping nature, everyone should see this film at least once! Additionally, the 5.1 audio of the film is quite superb, and the music score is fantastic. Cant wait to see this in blu-ray!

  The best war movie ever

No question about it. The best war movie ever and my favourite movie. This movie leaves me speechless every time. The 4 hour 40 minute version feels like 1,5 hours, so intense!

This has to be one of the best war films of all time. I have the original uncut version and the director's cut on dvd. I hope the Blu-ray one will be the original uncut version, of 4Hr 42mins...
