  Great BluRay.......terrible film!

| | See all RussellK's reviews (10)

I finally sat down and watched this last night after owning this BluRay for several months. I cannot criticise the quality of the BluRay, from the packaging to the picture and sound quality.

BUT, the film is absolute rubbish. The storyline doesn't make any sense, the acting is terrible and after just 10 minutes I was yawning. The only 'actor' to come out of this film with any credibility is the monkey! The rest of the actors should be ashamed.

If the studio makes a 4th film in the series then I hope it about Captain Jack in a new adventure. No more rubbish Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly.......Oh, and be sure to include a storyline for the monkey too!

One of the highest budget films ever!!

| | See all MovieMad13's reviews (84)

This film is amazing and is not the end to the series of movies as Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is being written now.
Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is one of the highest budget films ever! and lets face it how could it not be after Pirates 2, which was only the 3rd film in Hollywood history to make over a billion £ profit. This puts the film at the top with such films as Titanic and more recently the dark knight.

The film closes some of the story lines and opens up some new ones to carry on through the 4th film.
The movie was certainly the funniest in the series and definitely pushes the development in the characters. It can get a bit confusing through the movie, but after the 1st time you watch it you shouldn't have any problems following the plot!
The performances in the movie are great. Johnny Depp makes the film what it is, and is amazing as captain Jack Sparrow. He gives a knockout performance in these films, and should have got an award for best actor in them. The love story between Keira Knightley's character and Orlando Blooms character brings it's own elements to the storyline too, and is used to pace some of the action out.
Kalipso is the best character by far. Naomi Harris is great in the film and plays the Kalipso with a lot of energy. She is a great actress and is one to watch. She has two great films behind her with this and 28 days later.
All other parts in the film were acted out great too.

The film is visually spectacular and has great cinematography a great story that can be enjoyed over and over again. The dialog is great, and is very enjoyable. The music is great and can become a little repetitive like the second film.
The trailer for this film is great and if the you don't want to watch the film after seeing the it then i don't know whats wrong with you.

The DVD product is great too. A lot of special Features that really allow you to see how Gore Verbinski went about directing the film. The only con about the film is that the fight scene at the end does go on for quite a long time and you could find the fight become a bit dry and dragged out. The picture quality is good too, but only good, not great.

4.5 star DVD (acting/directing/producing)
5 star product

5 stars overall.

  This is such a drag...

The movie drags on and on about unnecessary events and side story...and..ugh..I don't care about any of it.

The only good scenes in this film are when Jack is stranded in Davy Jones' Locker and the final battle. The rest is pretty dull.

I can't believe I had high expectations for this film when I first went to see it in the cinema. It was like having Jack Sparrow come up to me and spit in my face. It was an insult and an embarassment to both Me, as a fan and film-goer and to the awesome characters in the Pirates movie, who have now been reduced to poor, cliche characters.

I swear, if they make any more...I am going to be so angry.

This is prime example of why I hate Disney. A complete sell-out of a company that just keeps making sequal after sequal for cash, nevermind what the fans want to see.
Don't even get me started on Pixar....

Anyway...as for quality of Blu-Ray, yeah, it was great. The open ocean scenes were incredibly clear, like looking out of a window out to the sea. The surround sound was excellent too, for example the rain in the final battle and the splash of the ocean was all around me when watching it. A credit to Blu-Ray.

For this movie, don't spend this amount of money on it. Buy it on DVD. This film is not worth any more than £10 at best, even if it is a two-disc.

The first film was great
The second was okay
This one sucks!!!

I think people have got carried away with this because the first film was good but the story is poorly concieved from the start!!!!

Buy the box set on DVD and save your hard earned cash for decent films on blue ray.

  Great film

This is a great film on a par with the other 2 releases in the series. Blu ray just gives it that little more. the water looks truly amazing in high definition.

  what a let down

| | See all chelmsfordman's reviews (8)

Having seen then other two films I had fairly high hopes for an entertaining couple of hours where i could just relax and enjoy a typical hollywood film.

2 hours later i found myself confused and bored....really lets the trilogy down. A mess of a film and for the most part totally pointless.

As a blu-ray movie (played through ps3 on a samsung lcd) the image quality was good - im one of those people that struggles to really see the immediate wow factor of HD over upscaled DVD....but my girlfriend seemed impressed (think its the trailer before the movie higlighting the benefits of HD over DVD with side by side comparison that convinced her).

rent it or catch it if u see it going cheap to complete your collection.

  Rubbish!

The first movie was ok but the second went downhill and this film is just plain dull! Was bored from start to finish. See The Bourne Ultimatum for the best blockbuster of 2007
