If you are expecting a wam bam sci fi fest with laser guns blazzing all over the place - look elsewhere, this is a rather different animal. In line with a recent trend in Sci-Fi films (e.g. Moon & District 19) this is a more thought provoking Sci Fi film that uses special effects to enhance a story rather than being the sole reason for watching. And Danny Boyle does it superbly well here. Yes it is a little derivative (echoes of Event Horizon, The Core, 2001 etc) but it is well acted, not completely far fetched and relatively tense all the way through and as previous reviewers have said it makes you think and certainly will stand up to several viewings.
And that is before you consider the blu ray transfer. Having seen a variety of discs over the past 12 months this is easily in the top 3 - a superbly sharp transfer up with the best combined with a top notch digital soundtrack will make a half decent home cinema system shine.
The soundtrack is superb - John Murphy and Underworld do a great job. The music isnt available in the shops but is on I-tunes (but only as a full album purchase......dont get me started!)
In summary in my opinion this is Danny Boyle's masterpiece - much better than slumdog. If you are in to thought provoking films -it is well worth searching out one of the many £9.99 deals out there at the mo!
