Independence Day (Blu-ray)

Never seen Independence Day until I decided to buy it on blu ray, and guess what, it's great! Yes the plot is far-fetched but it's full of action and adventure to keep you on the edge of your seat, right up to the last minute. Great picture quality too. By the way, initially this disc would not play on my Sony BDP-300 machine. I discovered that you have to get a firmware upgrade to play it. I tired to download the firmware upgrade from Sony's website but despite following the instructions it didn't work - so eventually I took it to an authorised Sony dealer in Walthamstow East London who was able to install version 3.07 of the firmware, and now it plays properly. Apparently the Sony instructions from their website don't mention that you have to have specific software on your PC for burning the imaged firmware upgrade onto a CD before it can be downloaded into your blu ray player. Also there are a total of 3 imaged files that have to be loaded as part of the firmware upgrade - these are cunningly concealed in the single Sony download file so watch out for them.

i have previously reviewed this product on 'dvd'
however because of it's 'special effects' it had at the time of release i thought this would be an ideal addition to my 'bly-ray' collection.
answer:- over the past 11years or so the technology has of course moved on at a pace, and had this film been made today the effects would have been spectacular on the blu-ray format.
is it worth a punt now ? ...of course it is.
'independence day' remains one of the best sci-fi films of recent times, and yes the effects on this format do considerably enhance the orignal production.
footnote :- the first copy i recieved from 'play' i returned as faulty ( it wouldn't load )
now i recently purchased a 'sony blue ray player bdps -
300b ) from play ( which i have reviewed ) when i recieved the replacement 'independence day' that also wouln't play ?
the film has differences from all the other blu-ray films i now have, a friend checked the 'sony' web-site and down-loaded up-dates for the 'player' ( took about 30 minutes and cost nothing ) loaded the up-dates on to my 'player' took about 20minutes to load-and yes the film played.

When this film was released on blu-ray i couldnt wait to buy my copy, only to find its a copy of the first version that was released on dvd?
Whats happening to the blu-ray discs are we now going to be ripped off as with dvd and video prior to that .
Are we now going to have to buy several more versions of the same film
before we get the full version?
I bought Independence Day on blu-ray in good faith only to find that it is missing the 9 minutes (hence the 3 stars)which is included on my dvd special edition ?
Can anybody comment as to why this happens other than greed.

Excellent transfer sound and picture are crystal clear. The film looks brand new. A must have for you blu ray collection

iv always loved this film and since gettin a ps3 this was the first bluray movie i brought and its just so much better than before. the detail is alot better and made the movie feel as if i hadnt seen it before. id recomend this to anyone that likes the film.
