He's RoboCop. And in the near future, he's law enforcement's only hope.

A sadistic crime wave is sweeping across America. In Old Detroit, the situation is so bad a private corporation, Omni Consumer Products (OCP), has assumed control of the police force. The executives at the company think they have the answer - until the enforcement droid they create kills one of their own. Then an ambitious young executive seizes the opportunity. He and his research team at Security Concepts create a law enforcement cyborg from the body of a slain officer. All goes well at first. Robocop stops every sleazeball he encounters with deadly, piercing, and sometimes gruesome accuracy. But there are forces on the street, and within Security Concepts itself, that will stop at nothing to see this super cyborg violently eliminated...

Prepare yourself for non-stop action and adventure in one of the most explosive sci-fi stories you'll ever witness: Robocop.

Great Film, Wheres the bonus features?????

The first thing that should be said is that the version of the film that is on the Blu-Ray disc is the full directors cut that was released on the standard version. This means more gore when Kenny gets blown away by ED-209 and a longer, gorier scene when Murphy bites the bullet.

The picture for the most part is excellent but does show up the stop motion animation of ED-209. The two scenes that were extended to make up the directors cut do change in quality when the extended bits are shown but overall the picture is very good.

If you already own the original special edition DVD but have a Blu-Ray player this is still worth owning. No extras bar a trailer but I have all the extras I need on the standard DVD so the film is worth a purchase, although it is inevitable that a spectial edition with more bonus features will surface further down the road.

Great Movie But Dvd 1.5 More than Blu-ray

LOved this movie from it first came out and was over the moon to see it get a blu-ray release.................However Quality is not a special as I was hoping for possibly one of the poorest blu-ray conversions to date Where a preious review claimed a bad tv to blame for the grain in alot of scenes this is not the case I have a high end system and grain is very noticible as is some colour spill. No special features is also very poor considering the dvd version from a few years back was plentifiul for featurettes overall far from a must have but maybe the best we can hope for.

 Good transfer for its age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all for all the people who thinks this film is vhs or dvd quality you have not got a clue!!!!i also own the vhs and dvd versions of this film and i can say that the transfer onto blu-ray is a good one, obviously it isnt gonna have the same picture quality as say apocalypto because the film is 20yrs old and wasnt filmed in high def, comparing the blu-ray against my dvd version,i played the dvd version on my b-ray player for it to be upscaled to 1080i, the differences are noticeable the picture image has been cleaned and is heck of a lot crisper and brighter and much better resolution and the sound is outa this world, robocop looks really detailed,as with most blu-rays i found there not to be a difference to my dvd counterpart UNTIL i compared them both and the differences are there, for people who say this is a bad transfer you should maybe start using a hdmi lead and not a scart , noobs:) my only downsides are no extras but im not to bothered as the dvd version has loads, also the load time of the disc is ultra fast unlike matrix reloaded or spiderman 3,worth getting this film even if you have it on dvd:)))))))) Hurry up and bring robocop 2 out on blu-ray!!!!!!!!!!!

 Essential Blu-Ray purchase, classic movie!

OK, let's clear the quality issue up once and for all. RoboCop begins with a three-minute spoof TV news bulletin, and these bulletins also return briefly and occasionally through the rest of the movie. It's evident these were genuinely filmed on television cameras rather than film, and the quality was never good, even on my old VHS copy! However, the rest of the movie is as crystal clear as any other Blu-Ray movie, but I realise that some viewers may be a bit worried by the first few minutes. To my delight, the stop-motion animation sequences look far crisper than on the DVD, and the director's cut footage also appears to have been remastered from scratch (on the DVD, the quality varied between the original sequences and the director's cut.) Still, it's a shame there's not more extras.

Anyway, all this aside, this is an absolutely classic movie. Peter Weller is amazing in the title role, both physically and on an emotional level, as Alex Murphy, an ordinary family guy, and an excellent honest cop who loses his life, his body and his identity. Nancy Allen provides the heart of the movie, and all the villains are superbly cast. Often billed as a revenge movie, it's not. It's a story about the indestructability of the human soul, told in the most original way, and paved the way for numerous imitation films in the late 80s and early 90s, none of which cut the mustard in the same way.

The second and third inferior instalments are likely to surface eventually (hopefully with lots of extras.) But let's have a new film, a fourth instalment, with the a new RoboCop and a new partner, for a new audience, with an amazing script and fantastic cast! This classic deserves a new lease of life!

If you've never seen this film, buy it now - you don't know what you're missing!

To the guy underneath: that would be 'could have', not of! Grammar lessons aside, this is a generally good transfer to blu-ray, when I say generally, I mean the majority of the film, sadly, the news bulletins and 'hilarious' tv ads don't benefit from the hi-def makeover, they were intended to look like 'video' footage and they still do and there is a lot of grain unfortunately, also the 'added' directors cut footage suffers slightly in some parts, (Murphy's shooting and Clarence's neck at the end) because this footage was originally omitted, the colour difference is noticeable.
Was a little bit annoyed on the special features front, all you get is a trailer, that is poor.
Overall though, it mostly looks good and is well worth a purchase! (especially on 2 for £22!)
